Minecraft is one of the most famous games in recent memory and it took over the free time of many gamers but I for one was not moved by the hype. First off the graphics. Some people love the pixelated graphics of this game and though it certainly looks different it doesn't naturally follow that different is better. I think the graphics were the result of the developers trying to cut costs as they art is extremely simple and lacks any kind of artistic flair. The gameplay itself feels like an open world block building game and is entertaining at the beginning but starts to feel aimless after a while. You are also given very little guidance on what you should be doing and what to do next. The old-school RPG elements make the game feel old compared to the advancements in game design during the last five years.
Minecraft's best feature is still it's world building mode, however that becomes boring soon as well. The real downer is the numerous bugs, frequent hanging and crashes. The owner of Minecraft is said to vacation more than the amount of time that he actually works and seems to want no part in providing customer support or incorporating popular feature requests by fans once the game is released. I understand that this game has a sort of vintage charm but the outlandish praise and attention it received from the gaming community is completely undeserved.
