I have posted a review on Microsoft Windows98 and it is available on this web site.

That in some sense should tell what Microsoft Windows95 is. It is certainly inferior to, though compatible with Windows 98.

I do not think Windows can be upgraded, other than by replacing by the new one. In which case users have the choice among Windows95, Windows 98, and Windows 2000.

I have been using Windows98 and I am happy with it, though occasionally, when the computer fails, I face problem.

But what is important, and obviously a crucial question is, when advanced versions of the Windows are available why bother about Windows 95? Unless of course one is stuck with one. In which case the alternative is to go for a later version.

One problem which I forgot to mention in my review of Windows98 is serious. For some reason the dealer did not enter the Product Key when he loaded the Windows. Nor did he tell me that there is something as a Product Key.

One day when I was using the Windows, there was a pop up insisting that I should enter the Product Key, otherwise the Windows will shut down.

It was week end, and I had a lot of work on my computer. Since I had no access to the dealer and to the Computer firm, I suffered a lot. The Windows continued to shut down as and when I tried to start, and caused havoc on my machine. By the time the Windows was reloaded three days later, the coloration of the various folders (and I suppose of the screens) was very bad. I believe the Windows has a built-in programme to shut down when the Product Key is not entered. But this shutting down was not done in the beginning, and is done suddenly after the Windows has been used for quite some time, without giving any notice to the user.

As Microsoft is now in an advanced stage of its development this issue of Product Key and related shutting down of Windows needs serious consideration. It should not release its software (Windows) unless the Product Key is already entered. Otherwise gullible and ignorant users will have a lot of problem.

It is well known that Indian marketing culture is so bad that companies and dealers are eager to book clients and once the clients are hooked by collecting their money the companies and dealers just do not care about what happens after that.

The Microsoft should keep this issue in mind and ensure that its literature (brochure) contains all the details, so that after the sales of its software the buyer will have no problems with its use.

As the Windows has considerable sophistication, and users cannot always depend on dealers and service engineers, Microsoft should come out with a Manual for use by the users, and should have built-in standby software as part of the Windows if the PRODUCT KEY WINDOWS fails and leaves the user high and dry.
