Today I would like to review the micromax Q3 phone. I am using this phone since thepast 6 months now, ever since my K550i gave up the ghost with an internal damage to the LCD screen (i dropped it only 10 times, damn!).The long and short of it was that I needed to cough up a good 1 grand to fix the LCD screen which just did not appeal to me! Hence I went ahead and started scouting for a new cellphone and since I had just been promoted at office I decided it would look better if I had a business phone rather than some conventional phone. Checked out nokia but was told nothing was below 11 grand, money that I just could not afford owing to my financial mess after the mother in law walked into a bike and broke her leg!

I was checking out cellphones at sangeetha when my eyes fell on the Micromax Q3 - Business phone with QWERTY Keypad, just what I was looking for, I was apprehensive of the brand but then I am a very impulsive buyer... Asked for the price- a cool Rs.4500 with insurance sounded like an AWESOME deal to me, considering the 11 grand quoted by nokia, I decided to take the piece then and there- no cash- charged it to the helpful and ever willing to be spent on, credit card.

Listing out the features for you in the box:

1)dual sim handset

2)Battery

3)Handsfree

4)Pouch

5)USB cable

6)Charger

I walked out of the showroom quite happy with the purchase I had made and went straight ahead and tried to use the camera to capture a photograph, imagine my shock when I found that the camera was the worst I had ever seen, even worse than my old antique moto E365 which had a VGA cam, checked the manual and found that this was apparently a 1.3 MP cam, but I can bet my last rupee that its no better than a VGA cam! The video quality sucked as well, I was expecting the worst at this stage but decided to give the phone a fair trial, hence charged the battery up completely and checked and found that the battery backup was a good 2 days which was fair enough, Also checked the sound quality and was very impressed by the supposedly mono speaker on this model which was extremely loud and great when using the speaker phone option, even when playing music through the speaker this is one phone to beat when it comes to the speaker!

The QWERTY Keypad makes messaging very easy(not that I SMS much). The phone is not that easily operable, if you want an easy to operate phone you would rather stick with a nokia.

The other thing I was impressed by was Nimbuzz which is basically a software that integrates all your social networking ids together so that you can live online 24/7, which is a nifty feature despite the fact that it takes an awful long time to load! I looked around for themes but could not find any, but I did manage to find some games for the phone on wap.in through GPRS, select sony as the make when you go there to ensure that the downloads offered are Java based.

The phone apparently supports .avi format, but till date I havent been able to get a single file to play, the phone supports Mp3 format but does not support RM format files which take up lesser space than MP3 filesĀ  which I see as a disadvantage.

The Dual Sim is an advantage, but the downside is that if someone is calling you on the 2nd sim when you are already on a call, he gets a message that the phone is switched off!

Overall this phone is a decent buy especially if you can live without a good camera, this is a phone for the Up and coming executive and by no means a phone for a college student though he might find the SMS option very convenient! Looks wise, Some folks also mistook this phone for a Black berry! Though it isnt that great looking, it is fair value for money.
