German ace Michael Schumacher is recognised as being at present the world's best racing driver. He became the youngest double Formula 1 World Champion (1994 and 1995 seasons) ever. Michael is also the 2000 and current (year 2001) World Champion. He is already champion this year and the season is not even over! This phenomenal record speaks for itself.
He is also the highest paid racing driver in the world, earning a reputed $30 million US. His younger brother Ralf became the third highest paid driver in Formula 1 in 1999, when his pay after the 2000 season was raised to $15.5 million US.
Michael is once again World Champion after 4 painful years without the title!
For the first time in four years, car number one belongs to THE number one. It took a long time, but finally the title came home to where it belonged! Also, Michael surpassed Ayrton Senna's race wins record, and equalled him on number of world championships (three).
He won at Suzuka to put himself 14 points clear of Hakkinen, an unassailable lead with only one race of the season now left. That left him with one more championship than Hakkinen's two (1998 and 1999).
With the prize achieved with Ferrari in 2000, they have become even stronger. Expect further championships to come!
