Before I write the review I have to accept that I am not such a huge fan of Rap and Rock (or am I supposed to say Metal).I respect the two genres individually but together they seem to be somewhat, plainly said, poor.. But if handled properly it sometimes turns out to be good just take for example ''Red Hot Chili Peppers''..Although they did not do it as a mainstream music but some of their songs do involve Rap and they sound really good...

Rap-rock music is not the problem; rap-rock can work, just listen to 311, Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More, etc. The problem with this band is lack of interesting or dynamic music, whiny lyrics and just the overall corporate image they project.

I am not against Nu-Metal either..I just love the albums of ''Creed''...Creed have included awesome songs and they never become monosyllabic and repetitive in their style of making songs...

The Line Up (I wouldn't care to mention it because I myself didn't know what their band formation is.. Had to find it from somewhere else ..)

Chester Bennington—lead vocals

Rob Bourdon—drums

Brad Delson—guitar

Dave ''Phoenix'' Farrell—bass guitar

Joseph Hahn—turntablist, samples

Mike Shinoda—vocals, sampling, keyboardist, rhythm guitarist

The Album (General)

Sometime back one of my friends had given me this album and said that I shall change my mind about Linkin Park (in general) after hearing this album..Before he gave me this album I hated the band..After he gave me the album I started hating it even more... But still I thanked him for making me see (something he could not see) the importance of the the conventional metal bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden,Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Slayer, Judas Priest etc. which I had earlier taken for granted..

A lot of times you wonder if it's a human playing the drums or a keyboard/computer playing a drum beat. The drum beats are so simple that a 5 year old could probably play them. The guitarist just plays like 3 of the exact same chords in each song. He doesn't even know how to solo. Each song sounds the same because they always use the same chord structure and pattern all the time. You might not realize it quickly at first listen but in the second time you come to know about the repetition and feel bored immediately..

Another problem, this is supposed to be a rock album, not electronica or techno. It truly saddens me that this is what is passing for good music these days and worse over, I've seen LP listed in magazines as being 'metal.'

There is not a single sound of bass at all in the album. What is he not playing or does he not have is amp turned up I mean what's the problem.

And another thing I've also heard of mothers liking this band. If your mom can listen to the same bands as you can without a problem, then that's proof right there that it's not real metal. Ha ha...

Tracks

  1. Foreward/Don't Stay - 5/10 I hate self loathing in music, especially insincere self loathing. The first song starts off with this note

  2. Somewhere I Belong - 7/10 An okay kind of song but anyday better than the rest..If they had handled the rest of the songs as they have done in this track we would have had more things to appreciate about this band...

  3. Lying From You - 4/10 Having heard this song I realised what was in store for me ..ie. constant screaming and screeching by the vocalist..

  4. Hit The Floor - 4/10 I guess you can call this music. Every song is the same, some Japanese dude rapping with some white clown screaming over the top of him.

  5. Easier To Run - 5/10 Decent in their standards but very poor effort by them...

  6. Faint - 2/10 Is it me or is it the CD repeating the tracks!! Same kind of lyrics and similar style of music repeating itself..

  7. Figure - 4/10 Just accompany the previous song with a change in tune you might find you have made another song...

  8. Breaking The Habit- 7/10 A surprisingly good song.. Come on.. A fitting title... They sure have broken the habit of making poor songs with this track (Or have they???)

  9. From The Inside- 5/10 An okay sort of track.. A surprising good solo in this track... Unfortunately it lasts for only 20 sec. ..Then it is back to the same boring repetition..

10.Nobody's Listening- 3/10 They were right when they chose the title of the song... Nobody is listening and nobody will..

11.Session- 3/10 The worst song ever..

12.Numb- 4/10 Thankfully the album ended. And with that ends the pain of listening it.However don't expect it to end in a positive note..

Total: 53/120 (So it is obiviously less than average)(So why is it so over hyped)

Analysis Of Their Lyrics

They are catchy alright.. But the same thing is repeated again and again...

Because they released so many albums in a single year and put so many songs on them, linkin park ran out of ideas, now they're just scrambling up their songs, putting like 32 of those same songs at a time on a cd(they still don't get it),and redoing them with rappers.....some rockers they are!

Take these lyrics for example

''Let me take back my life... the very worst part of you is me''

''Just give me myself back''

''And now you've become a part of me... I've let myself become you''

''All I want to do is be more like me and be less like you''

You might expect these lyrics to be included in the same track..Be ready to get surprised.. These lyrics are there in different songs all in the same album... What!! are they nuts to do this.. Probably yes!!!

In Short

  1. Bringing out the worst parts of Metal and Rap..

  2. Repetitive music and https://lyrics.

  3. Call themselves hard core metal artists manipulating the minds of beginners..Its not the mistake of the listeners but of this particular band...

  4. Consider themselves (Wrongly) the best rock band ever..

  5. The vocalist should realize that screaming at the top of his voice is not what metal is all about

  6. Nothing in comparison to the other bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Creed etc...

  7. Sadly MTV has promoted this junk..

I never say that you should not listen to this album..The problem is you must not ignore the other bands and their works.. I know it is improper to compare but bands like Slayer, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden,Metallica, Creed, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest etc. etc. are way better than this band...
