On the whole I am happy with the immense usefulness of these cab companies., there is no disputing that. They are a boon to middle class for their transportation needs, empowering scores of women who normally have to depend on their parents/brothers/spouses for their transportation needs offering them a convenience factor and freedom they provide and not to forget the scores of job they open up.
Up until now we can presume that most of these service provider were grappling with competition, consolidation and scaling up of their services, resulting in their reduced customer focus. We need to catch up to the developed countries good standard in these areas.
It is high time they improve on customer focus and delivery. Most cabs are unclean and noisy. AC's hardly function. Rampant monopoly exists where the cabbies prefer only longer trips versus intra city short trips. Driver need to be trained for sure in customer handling. Some of these drivers do not have any respect of the company rules and openly flout them. Booking made are missed. GPS is often switched off. Drivers do not help seniors citizens with loading and unloading luggage. Drivers often fight with customers and desert them. I have not even mentioned the security concerns because of dubious hiring methods. The cab company hardly has any control on these aspects. I also have to mention that there are many professional drivers among all these truant ones.
Almost all of the service providers have these concerns to address. My observations are purely based on personal experiences and collected after many episodes. I only wish to make others aware of these issues so that collectively we can bring a better experience to scores of the passengers. The government must consider a regulatory authority as the cabs are only going to multiple exponentially as our economy grows.
Until then we can only wish and continue to use what is available.
