A guy and a girl can never be friends because they invariably end up falling in love. What do you say about a movie that starts with such a idiotic concept.

Sanju (Uday Chopra) and Anju (debutant Sanjana) are best friends since they were kids. (Sanju and Anju are names parents would give to twins since they rhyme so well). This movie has all the cliches you can ever imagine in a single movie. Sanju is the typical extrovert flirt while Anju is the so sweet (read that as Introvert) slim fair and homely girl.Anju lives in a typical filmi joint family so there are numerous mamas, chachas, bhatijas, bhanji's, sisters and typical saccharine sweet parents and they all sing and dance to-gether.

Sanju lives with his room mate Ria (sultry and sexy Bipasha Basu) and incidentally both of them went out together for 8 days after which Ria dumped Sanju. Sanju meanwhile has had 8 girl-friends in the past 11 months which for some weird reason is specified over and over again. One fine day Anju calls up Sanju and informs him about her marriage. With help from Ria, Sanju realises he has always been in love with Anju so off he dashes to break up the marriage. Soon we are introduced to the groom to be Rohit (Jimmy Shergill) and Sanju starts trying his level best to break up the impending wedding. This he tries by using idiotic plans like asking Rohit about his ex- girl-friends in front of Anju so she realises what a flirt he is. Excuse me but is'nt Sanju himself a flirt? And how does his best-friend Anju not know about his superb score of 8 girl-friends in 11 months? Another of his foolish ideas is to throw a bachelor's party and make Rohit dance with a group of girls led by super-sexy Shamita Shetty. Shamita Shetty actually looks so much more beautiful and sexy in this movie then she did in her first movie Mohabatein. This idea actually works as he manages to send the news of the naughty bachelor's party to both Anju and her parents and needless to say they throw a fit over a harmless bachelor party where the groom to be does nothing more than dance with the girl.Ultimately of course the parents forgive Rohit and Sanju realises that one more of his brilliant idea's has fallen flat. But here comes the twist, Rohit realises that it's Sanju who is creating the problems all along and both of them decide that each one will take his chances and ultimately Anju will decide who she wants to marry. Sanju of course has a major problem on his hands as Anju still doesn't know that she is in love with him. In comes Ria acting as Sanju's girl-friend and Anju turns into Miss jealousy. Of course Rohit sees through the plan but being the gentleman that he is decides to play fair and square. All this nonsense goes on for over 2 hours and innumerable songs and dances later Anju realises thanks to Ria that Sanju has all along loved her but the wedding is within a few hours so can the two lovers tell each other about their feelings or will Anju marry Rohit? No prizes for guessing who gets the girl folks.

We have been used to watching hindi film producers ripping of hollywood blockbusters but this movie goes a step ahead and rips off from a few hindi movies also!. The main story is inspired from My Best friends Wedding. In fact Mere Yaar ki Shaadi hain translated into english means My best friends wedding!! Talk about creative bankruptcy!! Of course this is a hindi movie so a girl will never make any effort to break up a relationship or make the first move so here we have Uday Chopra playing the male Julia Roberts In fact in the climax Anju even tells Sanju that he should have understood that she is a girl and hence she cannot make the first move and tell him that she loves him!! What kind of crap is this? Have'nt our film makers progressed beyond 6 century BC? I don't know whether I should cry or laugh at such immature and silly dialogues. This movie is about Sanju and Anju's friendship and their subsequent acceptance of them being in love with each other. However, the entire romance part is handled in a very immature manner. Suddenly towards the climax Anju tells Sanju that she has been in love with him ever since she was a kid. Also, he was her only friend and she grew up with him so how did he think that she would need to spend the remaining part of her life with some other guy. What do you call a loser like Anju and moreover, how does she know Sanju is the one for her since he has been the only guy and friend she ever knew in her life? All along the movie we can see scenes and story ideas borrowed from other movies. Dilwale Dulhaniya le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch hota hai, Dil to pagal Hai and of course the innumerable Sooraj Barjatya films. Wow!! copying from so many sources must have been hard work!!. As if copying from so many sources wasn't enough, there is a scene lifted straight from the TV show Friends!

Uday Chopra is stuck in a role tailor made for Shah rukh Khan. Also the only reason he is acting in the movie is because he is related to the producer. There is nothing much to talk about his performance.

Jimmy Shergill is just about okay as the understated Rohit.

Debutant Sanjana has nothing much to do except look pretty (which isn't difficult for her) and wear all those lovely designer costumes. By the way her real name is Tulip Joshi. Why would anyone give up such a unique and lovely name for a boring name like Sanjana is beyond me.

Bipasha Basu is the saving grace in the movie. Here is one girl who is not only extremely sexy and beautiful but also comes up with one good performance after another. Every time she comes on screen the entire dull proceedings suddenly light up. Bips really has the ability to set fire to the screen.Thank God for her the movie was tolerable.

Sanjay Gadhvi has directed this movie though it seems to have been ghost directed by Aditya Chopra himself. If Sanjay has actually directed it then I must congratulate him as he managed to give me a major headache.

Sad part is that the movie has been produced by Yash Chopra. Over the last few years his movies are getting increasingly boring and cliched. I don't see myself making the blunder of watching another Yash Chopra production again.
