In the 1970s and 1980s, the woman in Hindi cinema used to be soft and loyal.

Times have changed. The woman in Hindi cinema is no longer the submissive, compliant sort. She can go to any extent to prove her love! From the looks of it, Mere jeevan saathi may seem like a poor copy of AITRAAZ. But it's not!

The film is centred around Vicky, played by Akshay Kumar, who is a budding pop singer and is madly in love with Anjali (Amisha Patel). Life moves at a smooth pace till Vicky gets two offers from two different music companies. The first comes from Morani and Torani, who like his voice and engage him for their company. Meanwhile, Canada-based company Angel International Music also extends him an offer to do stage shows in Canada.

The offer is lucrative so he accepts it and returns the advance payment to Morani and Torani. His refusal infuriates them and they decide to teach him a lesson by making him physically handicapped. But Vicky comes out unscathed in the attack, and Anjali is injured and confined to bed. Vicky is in a fix. He does not want to leave Anjali and go to US but she persuades him to do so.

In US, he meets Natasha (Karisma), his ex-college mate who always had a crush on him and turns out to be owner of Anjali International Music Company. Their closeness rekindles the romance. Now Vicky is caught between his love for Anjali and loyalty to Natasha.

Every year, there are a couple of movies that aren't very innovative in terms of script, but somehow, allow you to enjoy them on some level. Mere jeevan saathi is one of those films. Even though its story does get predictable and the screenplay has some glitches, Mere jeevan saathi manages to keep you hooked on to the screen.

Inspired by fatal attraction ,Mere jeevan saathi starts off as a routine love story but gathers steam the moment Akshay leaves for US!

The final 15 minutes of the film, when Karishma bashes Akshay black and blue, is amongst the most interesting parts of the film. The culmination to the story looks apt, considering that Karishma had been shown as a slimy character.

Sunil Darshan's direction is appropriate in most parts. Although the screenplay is not as convincing at times, the director camouflages the defect with some deft strokes, especially towards the climax.

Music is melodious. 'Dewaani and 'aawara' are two numbers that stand out, for the catchy tunes as well as their filming. Cinematography is eye-catching.

MJS belongs to Karishma Kapoor completely .She enacts the author-backed role with sincerity. Her expressions tend to get loud at times, but something like this works well with the masala movie audiences. Akshay is good!Amisha is passable.

On the whole, the target audience for Mere jeevan saathi are the masses and it should keep them content.

ps-The film has released today but its there in non-current section
