Meemutty Heights is located in the Northern district of Kerala, wayanad. It is about 28Kms from both Sultan Bathery and Chundale, on the Meppadi - Vaduvanchal - Gudalur Road, quite close to the Kerala - Tamil nadu border.

We drove up from Calicut at about 9:00am and reached the resort at about 11:30 . We were greeted warmly by Mr.Jacob, the person in charge at the reception, with a welcome drink( passion fruit juice). We were then escorted promptly to our cottage which was located at the top of a hill. The access road when viewed from the bottom looked quite a challenge. The cottage and its location more than compensated for the steep climb for the jeep. there is ample parking space adjacent to the cottage.

The panoramic view from the sit-out of the cottage is stunning. Rolling tea plantations on the front, a tropical forest to the right and a rivulet winding down between two hills on the left. the gurgling sound of fast flowing water was so soothing. By about 12:15pm the mist started rolling in and we were engulfed in a blanket of white till about 3:00pm - it felt as if we were sitting amidst clouds.

The hills and scenery had disappeared from sight in the mist. Even our Jeep parked about a few meters away was hardly visible!. We had lunch at about 2pm - non veg thali(good, wholesome yummy meal) - which was served to us in the cottage - we ate lunch on the sit-out in the mist.

After a short nap, we went about exploring the resort property and climbed up the meenmutty falls view point. The scenery from here is so green and lovely. There is a shed here with benches and tables made of bamboo. We made good use of the solitude and downed a couple of drinks at leisure.

On the way back to the cottage, we took a short dip in the rapids - the natural jacuzzi. The water was so clear - but quite cool. Lying in the rapids clinging on to the rocks to avoid being swept away was also quite an experience. This activity is not so dangerous as it sounds though. We used the rocks as bar counters to pour drinks and sneaked a couple of rounds lying in the water. The dip in the fast flowing cool water was very refreshing. We retired to the room by dusk refreshed and hungry.

The buffet dinner spread served at the resort restaurant was not to our liking - though we found a couple of dishes which were palatable. The sound of crickets and other nocturnal insects was quite loud in the sit-out. But once the doors were closed the cottage was so peaceful, cool and serene - even the gurgling sound of the rivulet was shut out. We slept well and woke up relaxed; raring to go,

The second day started with morning tea served in the room at 7:30 am sharp - as instructed by us the previous night. Breakfast Buffet(South Indian) was excellent. After a stroll in the tea gardens till about 11:00am.we took another dip in the rivulet andreturned to our cottage sit-out to wait for the mist. it actually did turn up like clockwork at about 12:10pm!. We sat in the mist and played cards, lunch was served to us at the cottage - we had Chinese fare - which again was quite good. We had to take a nap after another sumptuous meal.

By the time we woke up, it was evening. So, we downed a couple of drinks sitting in the cottage sit-out, enjoying the sun set. At dusk it suddenly started raining - the rain was so heavy that we were forced to vacate the sit-out and move indoors. The rivulet filled up with muddy red water and the gurgle of water turned into a roar. The rocks which had served as our temporary bar counters last evening disappeared from sight - along with our wish of taking another dip in the stream the next morning. The weather dramatically altered the ambient temperature too . it was even colder the second night. We had dinner in the room and settled down with an extra night cap to warm us up.

The second morning also started with a wonderful cup of tea served on time by a smiling room service attendant - peter. We had breakfast - buffet(carrot juice, battoora with subzi; bread toast, butter & jam), sat around for another 3 hours playing cards and checked out by about 11:30 am to grudgingly return to our everyday activities.

This definitely was a memorable week-end get away - which hopefully will be repeated soon!
