It’s not a new thing for Bollywood to lose many of its talented actresses due to marriage. Meenakshi Sheshadri is also one such name in that long list of actresses. It’s very tough to find a girl who has both acting talent as well as good looks. How many actresses of today can boast of both these qualities simultaneously? Hardly any! Meenakshi was one such actress. Without any doubt she was the prettiest actress of the 80’s.
Meenakshi was a professional dancer. It was after she won the Miss India contest in 1980, that she decided to start a career in Bollywood. And she didn’t look back after that. She was a very versatile actress and could do all sort of roles. Her screen presence was very strong indeed. Also she was very adaptable. She worked with all the actors of that era without any difficulty what so ever.
It won’t be an overstatement to call her a classy actress. She was very ostentatious on and off the screen. The best part about her was that she used to enjoy her work and that clearly showed in her performances. She played a great innings in Bollywood before being “clean bowled” by Mr. Harish Mysore.
Born on 13th November, she is a typical Scorpion. Some of her wonderful movies include – Painter Babu, Humshakal, Mein Tere Liye, Hero, Meri Jung, Love Marriage, Joshilay, Mera Jawaab, Swati, Dacoit, Satyamev Jayate, Inteqam, Vijay, Ag Se Khelenge, Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Mohabbat Ka Paigham, Aawargi, Ghar Hoto Aisa, Ghayal etc.
Her nickname is Sherry. At present she is enjoying the bliss of being a mother. She has two children. And if I’m not wrong she is well settled in Dallas, Texas (do correct me if I‘m wrong).
She can be a very good role model for the actresses of today. Mallika Sherawats and Neha Dhupias should watch her movies and understand the fact, that you can look decent and beautiful at the same time. It’s quite another thing that both Mallika and Neha are neither decent nor beautiful!
I really hope for Bollywood’s sake that she makes a comeback. There is a big dearth of talented actresses here and Meenakshi certainly has it in her to make a difference! Even if she doesn’t play the lead roles now she can still do her bit by accepting some powerful supporting roles. And I can assure you, if she does come back, even in a side role she’d be able to overshadow the Kareena Kapoors of today.
Although she did attract some attention, but couldn’t really get the appropriate praise she deserved! The main reason for this was her two powerful counterparts – Sridevi and Jaya Prada. They were the primary choices for filmmakers and thus used to get most of the good roles. Public too was crazy about them. Thus, Meenakshi’s potential never really got the kind of appraisal it justified!
To conclude I sincerely hope she does listen to this plea of one of her many fans and comes back to where she belongs i.e. the big screen. And if she doesn’t then I wish her all the luck and happiness for her future endeavours!
