Meenakshi temple is located in the city of madhurai. the deities over there is lord shiva and paravathy. its an absolutely amazing temple with great mythological history behind it. its a massive temple with almost about 7 to 9 tall gopurams. it is believed that MADHURAI MEENAKSHI TEMPLE IS THE ONLY PLACE ON EARTH WHERE THE MARRIAGE OF LORD SHIVA & GODESS PARAVATHY TOOK PLACE. hence the diety is both shiva & parvathy together. over the gopurams the entire marriage procession of shiva & parvathy is sculptured. the actual human & animal figures are beautifully sculptured over it. inside the temple is huge lifesized statues of many hindu gods & godesses. at the exact center of the temple is a GOLDEN LOTUS . there is a big hall with 1000 pillars called as " AAYIRUM KAAL MANDAPAM " .during some specified time of the day one can hear the, usical sounds " sa, re, ga, ma, pa, dha, ni, sa" i.e the saptaswaram can be heared on banging on the pillars. it is just truly adorable place. the time period taken to built the temple was 600 years started by some king & ended by some other king. it is believed that the temple was built up from top to bottom. the huge goupuras can be even seen from the railway line. offerings & poojas all conducted in a rich tamil traditon in the temple. lodging facility available. good variety of food is available. madhurai railway statin is a junction where many trains halt so it makes easy for commuters to reach the temple. the place is worth visiting please do visit.
