Directed by the famous cinematographer PC Sreeram, this movie takes a step forward.Sreeram's camera ability is simply superb. He had made the entire movie using lots of great lighting .PC Sreeram is a great man who ventured to place the light anywhere in the 360 degree axis.

Those who have seen past Maniretnam's movies would defintely appreciate what he has contributed to indian cinema so far.Sreeram was the ace lens man preferred by Maniretnam. Back in 1994, this movie featured certain innovations which set the standard for current movies now. At the time , south Indian movies were going thru a transition phase in form, structure and style .

The song picturisation of the heroine intro song (Maargazhi Poove) was one of the best song sequences of 90s Indian cinema alongside Maniratnam's Chaiya Chaiya. The whole sequence simply scintillates .Shot in an MTV style fashion, the lighting and camera tecniques were very apt for the sensuous mood of the song. But, the undercurrent in the movie was the fact that, it had universal appeal. The music came as a favourite after the movie was released.

Inspite of the extraordinary music churned out by Rahman, the scores, more or less were pieces on their own, had some significance in the movie , apart from being prominently picturised. Apart from that, the story presentation was unlike anything done before, it radiates the youthfulness of the 90s.The whole movie was basically a heartwarming love story of runaway girl had song sequences just in the right places and the right time.

The storyline came as novelty as the 90s had a penchant for these type of stories.Typically heavy in lighting and hues and high number of scenes with background music,But movie had all the characteristics which typically define the bygone era of the 90s.It was classic, artistic and of defintely enthusing.

These film and some others of that era had all that naive touch be it projecting different hues from the lens eye of Mani Ratnam or PC Sreeram or those background scores, would haunt the audience even today.Unfortunately, the flash seems to have taken precedence over the film itself, which has bombed in India. Nevertheless, this was one of the era defining movies of the 90s with a different feel, one that has to be seen and experienced. The 1990s was definetely a great time for South Indian cinema.
