Vimal Saga 1 – The game of death(Maut ka Khel)
“The situation was very difficult, not for me, for Sir Gokuldas Gupta and his daughter Madhuri. If Shanta will be successful in plan to kill Madhuri then Sir Gokuldas Gupta will die automatically due to terrible execution and shock of death of his daughter…. I am not worried about myself. I can run away from the all situation. But Gokuldas and Madhuri will survive, when I ran away like this. Probably not. I have to do something to save them.”
The above paragraph of novel tells us that Criminal and prison breakout offender Vimal has some kindness and humanity in his heart and these things asking him to go against oppression and injustice.
The story actually begins at Bombay railway station where a rag, hungry and desperate young man sitting on the platform. He had never begged anyone yet to fulfill his hunger and he was just waiting that God will grace with his kindness. He got two rupees from a businessman in respect of doing work for him. God listened his pray and he went to nearest restaurant and taken some foods. During same time, he saw a woman who left her purse in telephone booth. The young man stand up and took out some money from purse but how is it possible that he can get anything very easily in his fortune. The lady came up early to telephone booth and caught him red-handed.
Woman offers young man to do a job for her in spite of surrendering him to police. The young man has no option and in that case, the youngster has to obey the woman. Who was the youngster and why and how he came to such condition?The name of youngster is Sardar Surendra Singh Sohal. He cleaned his beard and changed hairstyle. The Sikh Sardar Surendra Singh Sohal turns into a young man like a north Indian. He was most wanted criminal who escaped from Allahabad Central Jail. He agrees with lady because he does not want to identify by Police. He told his name to Lady – Vimal Kumar Khanna. From here a new character and name comes up in Indian Hindi pulp fiction industry that touches the skies and got lot of success ahead.
Coming to the story, the lady Shanta Gokuldas who offered a job to Vimal, want to murder his business tycoon old and handicapped husband by using Vimal. But Vimal denied doing such work. Vimal told her that he will tell her intention to Mr. Gokuldas. But Lady Shanta Gokuldas did not throw his intention to murder her husband. She hired a one more person Basco. She planned that Basco will rape Mr. Gokuldas 15 year daughter Madhuri and due to shock Mr. Gokuldas will die automatically. Somehow Vimal got the information of her plan. He wants to save both Mr. Gokuldas and Madhuri. But how? Why a criminal want to help and save both? What happens in his past life which made him a criminal?

This is just the magic work from Sir Surender Mohan Pathak. The first scene of this novel is so natural and seems realistic. The flow of story is interesting and keeps you bound with it till ends.
The plot is small but very interestingly designed and presented by Sir SMP. The writing skill of Pathak sir is so natural you can’t say that this novel is totally imaginary. The Characters like Lady Shanta Gokuldas, Basco, and Martha are interesting and you can feel that they all are from our society. You can feel such characters in our real world. These characters are famous in the world of SMPian(A word which is used for the fan of SMP).
The exceptional and key thing of this novel is its climax. When you will complete the novel and think that it’s the end of novel but the climax of this novel excites you to know what will happen with Vimal in future.
When you will read this novel you cannot think that it’s just a story of legend of pulp fiction history Vimal. This novel will give you the artistic feeling. The novel was first time published in 1971. After 2 month, next book released of this series. But both books did not found success and Sir SMP stop writing this series. After 5 long years, third book released of this series and this became a huge success. Readers and publication house asked Sir SMP to write Vimal series more. Now, “Vimal Series” is a brand name in Hindi pulp fiction industry. Sources are saying that 42nd novel of this series is coming from “Harper Collins”. This initiative from multinational publication house will wake up again Hindi pulp fiction.
Sir SMP said in his much known “Lekhakiya(Authors desk)” that some events and story of this novel is taken from James Headly Chase novel. He agreed with this word many time. Even, I know this fact however I read this novel and enjoyed it very much. I am not a good reader of English novel but I can’t ignore such novel, if I get a chance to read them in Hindi. I will prefer more to those novels which was translated by Sir Surender Mohan Pathak.
This novel which consist 150 pages is filled with Thriller, adventure and mystery. The readers will surely enjoy this novel and recommend to other ones.
