Trishul is Amitabh’s one of the blockbuster hit of 80s. The film was directed by the legendary film Director, Yash Chopra and produced by Gulshan Rai in 1978.

I have seen this film many times since my child hood and the best thing about this film had its great emotional impact and is worth seeing as far as true family entertainment is concerned. I have seen so many films of Yash Chopra but still feel this film has its significance.

The story of film revolves round an idealistic son Vijay’s (Amitabh) true love and devotion for his mother, Shanti (Wahida Rehman).

The film start with the beautiful song and an affair between Shanti (Wahida Rehman), a self respected middle class girl with an Construction Engineer, Raj Kumar (Sanjiv Kumar), both liked each other and wanted to marry soon, as Shanti give a good news of her expecting a child, but Raj’s mother has bigger ambition for his son, Raj. Raj is a very dedicated and perfectionist in his profession, his boss Seth Deendayal has all prays for his works and has a desire to get jos daughter, Kamini, married to Raj.

He organised a big party and invite them. Here he open his mind to Raj’s mother that he wanted his daughter to be married with Raj and make him a partner in his business, which his mother heartily accept. While when Raj introduces Shanti to his mother, that time he does not show his real intention but after departure of Shanti she tries to convince his son to accept to marry Kamini to get a big name in construction industry. Raj tries not to accept it but in the end he had to accept his mother decision. When Shanti knows this she shocked and leaves the city and gave birth to a child whom she named Vijay, Shanti endures many hardships to bring up her illegitimate son Vijay. She brings him up to be a strong and confident man. She confides her life story to him. The beautiful song sung by the Legendry, Lata Mangeshkar, *“Tu Mere Sath Rahega Mune”, ** has a powerful impact in the whole film and Director’s sharpness of reusing this song in regular intervals is also great.

Slowly and gradually the time passed and Vijay become a very brave and confident young man, who has no fear for blasting the dynamite with his cigarette. One day when he was returning to home he got a message that his mother is no more. He was so shocked and take pledge to take revenge from his father, Raj Kumar Gupta. He went on search of the man who betrayed his mom for the riches.

Vijay meet his father R K Gupta, who is now a millionaire and a very reputed name in the construction industry, Vijay knows he is the illegitimate son of Raj Kumar Gupta, while Raj was not aware of this. Vijay is still a poor guy with nothing but self-confidence and his mom's blessings ask for Rs.5 Lacs which he will take from Raj Kumar Gupta for removing all hurdles on his land encroached by the Maphia. The leading dialog of this film isAaj Mere Pass Jeb me futi kodi nahi hai aur me 5 lakh ka soda karne aya hu"

A great theme of the film expresses the practical struggle of Vijay, how he stands on his feet against all odds in life and become a successful rich man and competitor of his father. Sanjiv Kumar, Amitabh Bachan and Shshi Kapoor have given significance to their character. The tussle between both father R K Gupta and son, Vijay is quite impactful, nowhere in the whole film you will see anything moving to odd track, everything looked systematic and channelized. The dialogue written by Slim Javed is immense powerful and gives a big impact. Performance of all characters is sterling viz. Hemamalini, Rakhi, Poonam Dhillon, Sachin and the Villain, Balwant Rai (Prem Chopra).

Here the battle between father and son is not only of money but also of minds. While at one side Vijay faces real challenges thrown in him by R K Gupta, on the other he helps his sister Babli (Poonam Dhilon) when she encounter a minor accident, He took her to home, where he met his father. R K Gupta shake hands with Vijay and when he find blood spot in his hand he tell Vijay, at moment I was thinking it is my own blood. Though this film has 5 good songs but in the middle at party this song sung by Kishore Kumar looks pretty enthusiastic and zeal – “Mohabhat Bade Kam Ki Cheez hai”. “Gapuchi Gapuchi gam gam and Kishiki Kshiki kam kam” were quite popular songs of that time.

In the end while Vijay taking help of great rival of R K Gupta Balwant Rai (Prem Chopra), while Balwant Rai uses a foul language against his father, Vijay smashed his hand over his face, as Vijay do not want any other outsider should interfere in his family matter and criticize his father.

There is a fight between Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh due to misunderstanding and Vijay’s taking part in the ashirwad giving ceremony on occasion of Babli’s (Poonam Dhilons) marriage with Shachin, but when Shekhar (Shashi Kapoor), knows from Rakhi that Vijay (Amitabh) too is his brother he accepted this and along with his sister left the house of his father R K Gupta.

Due to losses in construction business and losing confidence of his family, R K Gupta became furious and in anger give supari (murdur) of Vijay to his rival Balwant Rai (Prem Chopra) but in the end scene when Amitabh disclose the story to his father and also return all his property documents to his father, R K Gupta, he went to meet Vijay in his office, where he sees the Photo frame of Shanti. Seeing it R K Guputa was shocked and takes pledge whaterever be the circumstances he will save the life of Vijay from Goonda, Balwant Rai.

In the climax of last scene during a fight to save life of his elder son Vijay, R K Gupta sacrifices his own life and before dying he advises both of his sons to make bonding and live a very happy life.

One must watch this family bonding film, especially how a poor young man Vijay has to face lot of difficulties in his life to become successful business icon and it is rarely to be seen tody. The film is still meaningful today as it was in the 80s. This film got best film fare award and best actor award was then given to angry young man, Amitabh Bachhan for his sizzling performance and excel in his character. Amitabh is really a perfectionist and super hero of this century.

A big salute to the Director, Music director, Writer, Singers and Actors for their worthy works.
