Amidst the busy life of Mumbai, Matheran is a wonderful weekend getaway. located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra and the smallest hill station in India as it is known. situated in western ghats around 90 km from Mumbai and 120 km from Pune.
Matheran can be reached from Mumbai by train, you need to take any Mumbai bound train from Karjat and then get down at Nerul which is at 21 km from Matheran and takes around 15 mins, also to add pleasure to party one can take the Toy train, though this is very slow option to reach, it takes approximately 2 hours but a wonderful experience.
Matheran provides a panoramic view of the surrounding area, among the places of attraction there are couple of lakes, parks, few temples and the main attraction being the mountains points to be exact there are around 28 points to see few of the notable points are Alexander point, Rambagh point, porcupine point and others it will take approximately 2 days to complete your tour, the best time to go is from October to May.
A lot of accommodation options to choose from Bungalow, hotels, resorts, homestays, villa's and Guest house, so you need to make your choice as it suits you, and these are all offered at your affordable prices.
For me, it looked pretty safe to me, I just happened to speak with the locals and few travellers who had all alone by them from their testimonies it looked pretty safe to me.
