THE BEST METAL ALBUM EVER!!! I have no reservations in writing this statement because it is 100% true. Metallica are the best metal band in existence and this is their best album, it's as simple as that. From the melodic spanish guitar intro of Battery to the blinding riffs of Damage Inc., Master of Puppets oozes quality musicianship and insightful https://lyrics. Master of Puppets was Cliff Burton's last album with the band, and he can be heard to full effect in this album, most notably with his lead bass in the title track.

The track Master of Puppets is an epic anthem, and in my mind is Metallica's greatest song. It has a groove that no-one can resist, increadibly heavy riffs, melodic clean guitar parts, a harmony between Hetfield and Hammett, a lightning fast solo from Hammett, and performed by Hetfield and Hammett (plus Cliff's increadible bass solo).

This is the kind of quality that is placed into every song on this album, each of which is distictly different from each other. The lightning-fast Battery defies all other so-called 'fast songs' with a blazing rhythm, the uber-heavy Thing That Should Not Be is possibly Metallica's heaviest song to date (apart from those on St. Anger), Welcome Home (Sanitarium) harks back 2 years to Fade to Black, showing Metallica aren't just the masters of heavy songs, Disposable Heroes is another epic which contains highly-relevant lyrics about war, soldierhood, and the wasting of men's lives on the battlefields, Leper Messiah is a slower, heavier song that preaches of the dangers of false idols, Orion is in the same vein as The Call of Ktulu - a long instrumental - but imporves on Ktulu ten-fold. A highlight is the kick-arse guitar melody written by Cliff Burton and performed by James and Kirk. Finally, as mentioned before, Damage Inc. hold fast galloping riffs and some killer licks by Kirk Hammett.

In 1986 James, Lars, Cliff and Kirk released the greates thrash metal album ever upon the world. Any serious fan of Metallica must buy this album and indulge in it's musical and lyrical richness. I can't say it enought - this is THE definative album.

P.S. If you like this also look for Ride the Lightning - my personal favourite album by Metallica, ...And Justice for All - the album which solidified Metallica's standing as the greates thrash band ever, and Kill 'Em ALL - DON'T BE PUT OFF BY THE FACT THAT IT'S THEIR FIRST ALBUM, IT KICKS ARSE.
