Have you ever seen a rat while dining at a restaurant?? I have.
It is about the famous “Mast Kalandar” restaurant. I went to this chain first in 2010 beginning. Somehow I liked the taste, the feel and the founder’s creativity. To be honest, the food there is quite cheaper as well. I have been to this chain of restaurant around 3-4 times at different locations.
This is when I visited the Mast Kalandar, in Chennai, Besant Nagar with my family. I had to wait almost 45 minutes to get into the table. It was a Saturday evening and a disorganized mess there. There was more number of people standing than sitting. The tables were big, six-eight sitters occupying a lot of space. And one table meant one order, whether it is one or two persons eating. Table sharing is probably not allowed in Mast Kalandars. It was chaotic, frustrating and the place was very dirty to be true. This kind of traffic is seen at so many restaurants on Saturday evenings, but it is never chaotic and disorganized as this place was.
Finally our turn came and we ordered. Just before our food was served, “Oh My God!!” we saw a rat running in the window next to our table. That was un-hygienic. And the restaurant as a whole was very dirty. I had to go to the wash area to wash my hands. Never again!” It was a dirty mess. The floor, tables, ceiling, walls, windows. All were dirty and the rat did wore the crown of that dirty evening.
I somehow appreciated the founder of the Mast Kalandar chain and thought it would do good one day. I liked the vision, the food, and the originality. But now I don’t intend to go there again. I request the owner of this chain to keep an eye on the operation of the various outlets. There should a proper control on the hygiene and cleanliness. There should be a good manager managing the crowd as well.
