I had initially booked Maruti Swift thinking that the car would be delivered in couple of months. But when the dealer (salesman) called me up and said that the car would be delivered only after 6 months. I was upset. Now I had to reevaluate lot many cars and my budget before I decide on a new car.
After going through few cars I finally settled down for maruti Zen.
Cost
Zen VXI (petrol) came to around 4.1 Lac on road. But added 50k worth of accessories.
So in the end It came to around 4.6 Lack.
Space and Comfort level
Frankly, Zen is not for 4 big people. It is best for 2 people with the front seats pulled all the way back.
The back seat can be used to put some luggage like bags, laptop, etc and for emergency an additional passenger.
This works out to be great for me coz we are a family of 3 now. Dad Mom and me, Dad has his car and I use my car for my office trips.
Engine & Engine Response
Engine is about 1000cc (I wont go into details on this) Well tested for Indian conditions.
MPFI system which helps give a good mileage.
On engine response, due to MPFI the engine does not respond to your throttle at higher gears the way you would expect (If this happens, it means you are on a wrong gear while throttling). The engine will wait for the revs to come up before it will start pumping fuel into the engine then you will feel the car taking off.
Engine responce suffers if the AC is on.
Mileage
Good mileage of 13-15 between City and highway.
Some freak Engine Noise
After a week some freak engine noise starting coming from under the bonnet. On inquiring with the maruti service center guys. They said it is quite common with maruti zen and it can be fixed in no time.
Overall
All in all I am quite happy with the car for my kind of driving. I like to zip through the street filled with rickshaws.
