I bought the new international zen in the year 2004. its been a pleasure driving the car. its a real value for money and the best car for starters. with a mileage of 16+ in the city and nearly 19 on a highway its very light on ones pockets.
the only disadvantage is its very low ground clearance. and cramped interior.
its not suitable for people with big build as driving becomes very uncomfortable due to the short leg space.
it gets a little sluggish with AC during the initial pickup but gets better at higher speeds.
the power steering is effective for a car of its price range.
with maruti’s good service and low maintanace of the car, its a good bet for people who have just learnt driving and want to learn how to maintain a car.
not sure how the new zen is gonna fare with a totally new design and a different engine from the old ones.
But for those who want to play safe, my recommendation is to go for the current zen with its tried and tested and trusted engine.
