Value for money, but WagonR is a better deal

I bought this vehicle (LXI version, ecru biege colour) a week back.for my parents. This review is to tell about the general feel and driving as I haven't checked the mileage yet.

The other car I have is the new WagonR VXI (bought Sep last year - pls see review), so comparisons will be inevitable.

Reason why I got this - there was a better consumer discount running plus since it is my second car from the dealer, I got an additional 25k discount plus some accessories. So with a simple music system and central locking, this came to 3.9 on road and as I had a tight budget (even 15k more wasnt' possible).

Positive points -

Fairly good looks.

Very good boot space. Good to pack 2-3 medium sized bags. This is the disadvantage of the WagonR that it has much less boot space, so it scores here.

Pick up is also quite good when comparing to the Wagon R. Although the bhp count and torque are same, I suppose the aerodynamics is better and perhaps weight is less. Requires much less gear shifts. In fact, if my WagonR had this pick up, I would be perfectly satisfied with it !

Sound - much smoother engine sound that WagonR. But overall smoothness of drive is better in WagonR, as there seem to be some vibrations overall - may not bother most people. a few loose screws which may get sorted out easily in the first service.

Average points -

Seating space is just ok (mind you, if you sit in the wagon R, its actually more comfortable than almost all hatchbacks). here it is just ok.

Gear shift - not as smooth as the WagonR, hope it gets better with time and the first servicing

Braking - not sure if it is really power assisted. WagonR definitely has much easier braking and offers great control

Negatives -

Plastics - these are pretty much what they used to be earlier. WagonR is much much better now.

Width - less than WagonR. where this seems to matter is that the co-driver isn't the most comfortable when the driver changes gears (you can't relax your right arm completely).

Why I am putting these in negatives is that despite paying nearly as much for WagonR, the feel isn't the same. What I am confident of is that Maruti is making a whole lot margin on this car than they are making on the WagonR. But for my Dad this was nearly perfect, he actually likes the gear shift and the braking as it is more to his control.

So all in all, great buy for me for my needs and within my budget.

To everyone - here is my simple assertion, if you like the looks of this car much better than WagonR, go for it, but otherwise WagonR is much more value for money than this, no question there.

More later when I check the mileage.
