Hi, This is my second write-up. I am looking forward to buying a Zen Estilo VXI. Naturally, for the last couple of weeks, I was doing some research on various aspects of car buying. Right from the tech specification of the car to the finance, insurance and tax. But after reading so many comments about horrible experiences with dealers, I am totally confused.

Lots of people, it seemed, had very bad experience with Bimal, Pratham, Mandovi, etc. Is there anybody else selling maruti suzuki cars in Bangalore? I have a plan though. Readers of this blog, please tell me what you think of my buying strategy:

  1. I will take the finance from SBI. Anyway I will have to submit all the paper work. So if I get a low interest rate from SBI then so be it. One question: How can I prevent the bank to handover the checque to the dealer before the delivery? (For example, if the dealer says that the delivery is delayed for 2 weeks, the bank will hold the cheque back unless I say that the car has been delivered to me. How can I create this mechanism?)

  2. I will arrange for the vehicle insurance myself. The dealer will not be able to squeeze out money from this bargain.

  3. Let the dealers do the road tax and service tax as dealing with government office clerks, is even more bothersome.

  4. Get as much discount as possible, like flat discounts on offer (for example: estilo is sold for 30K less for now, and corporate discounts on offer).

  5. Not to take any accessory that is intrusive. For example, to set up a power window the mechanic will have to open the door and set up the motor. I think, under the situation, there is no point in trusting these people. Take things like seat cover, or mats or perfumes if you like. And get the accessories fitted from outside.

  6. Last but not the least: Since it is us, the consumers, who suffer and that too making such huge investment, it is time that we team up and take these dealers to court if they try to fool around and give stupid excuses. Frankly, Maruti as a company is dependent on them and have to deal with these dealers on a daily basis. Even if they want to, I am sure they would drag their feet when stringent actions are required to ensure honest business practice. Requesting suggestions from members with experience in buying cars...

  7. Amit
