The latest Maruti Swift has taken the market by storm with its gorgeous euro looks and styling and some lovely colours to choose from. But it falls back on key aspects of space, comfort and safety when you compare with Hyundai Getz.
Body Type, Styling and Design
Both are hutch back with euro styling, the swift scoring huge points over Getz but hey wait , the most important aspects of safety & strength , it will get into problems. Hyundai have done very good homework from its ugly dent prone design of Santro and have done remarkable job on safety aspects on Getz. The body of Swift is similar to Zen and you have no great improvements on that. The length height ratio, the body weight & design, bigger wheel base makes the Getz definitely superior in terms of sturdiness and road stability. The other problem you will face in city roads with congested traffic with swift is that the level of protrusion in the middle either side will give room for hits.
The exteriors Head lamp, tail lamp, front and back view, Swift is way ahead compared to Getz.
Engine & Performance
Swift’s 1288 cc,87 bhp @6000 rpm Vs Getz 1341 cc,83 bhp @ 5500 rpm gives you very little to choose from the two, they both have done remarkably well. Having driven both the vehicles, I found that the pickup, speed and performance are outstanding compared to the previous generation cars. They are way ahead of Wagon R and Santro. The Gear shift on Getz is like handling a baby toy, simply superb while Swift has better clutching and does better at lower gears as well. The Brakes and suspension are just the same in both.
Comfort & Interiors
Getz of course is more elegant inside than Swift except the front dash board which they kept very long. The Swift is a beauty outside but is very cramped inside especially back seat. Both these are not comparable to Palio on this count, but Getz fares better on space and comfort including the baggage space.
Price tag
Swift has a clear edge here with a range of 3.9 to 4.9 lakhs compared to 4.5-5.5 lakhs for a Getz.
Fuel efficiency
Swift seems to be way ahead with 17 plus km/litre on petrol compared to getz giving only 13.But we need to wait and see for more feedback on the Swift.
Both the companies have done a remarkable job on their new Car which is way ahead of what we have on roads. But Swift is scoring all the numbers because of its looks and Maruti patronage. Surprisingly Xing is way ahead on numbers compared to Getz. Maruti’s marketing strategy has been better.
The Gets clearly is a better car than many Sedans like Indigo, Sienna or Esteem or for that matter Accent basic versions, you have to drive to really appreciate this but not many are found on the roads.
The Swift is the best for lone driving or for a family of 3.
Conclusion: Getz is really ”swift” and the Swift ”getz” you there in style,but watch out for some new lovely cars coming up before making your decision
