Swift 1.5 liter, 33 months and 78000 kms on. Review on Maruti Suzuki Swift

This is my third review about the Swift. Since it's impossible to write an additional review under the same title in Mouthshut, I've had to create a third ID for this. My first two reviews are here:

Nearly three years and almost 80, 000 kms later, I thought I’d write some more about the car. The ONLY two problems I had with the car were a punctured rear tyre and a bad front wheel bearing. The wheel bearing was replaced and a new tyre was fitted, with Nitrogen filled inside, instead of air. I’ve been driving my car all way round Europe, mostly doing between 130-180 kph on highways. I’ve taken it to 200 three times and have touched 195 on many occasions as well and I have experienced no loss of power at all. I have pushed the engine a lot and it has delivered every single time.

In terms of mileage, I have the following table, based on my speed on the motorway:

80 kph - 20 kmpl

100 kph - 18 kmpl

120 kph - 16 kmpl

140 kph - 13 kmpl

160 kph - 11 kmpl

180 kph - 8 kmpl (this is with the car fully loaded with my wife and our baggage)

City-driving-wise, I get between 13-15 kmpl.

I’m happy with its speed on the motorway but I do feel that it could do with some thicker tyres. I have the standard ones, 185/60 R15, and on high speeds, the car does feel a bit ’on edge’. Sure, I’ll lose my top-end speed but atleast the car will be more stable.

I’ll get a new car in the next few months; unfortunately, it wouldn’t be the Swift. See, I’ve had a good run with the Swift but I seriously can’t see myself driving the same car for over three years, however, that’s my personal opinion.

If you’ve seen this car and you like it, then go for it. If you’re worried about fuel consumption, then fix your driving accordingly but do take note, this car performs best on high revs, that’s how its engine is designed. If you want fuel economy whilst driving in the city, then opt for a lighter / smaller car with a smaller engine that gives more low-end torque and something with smaller, thinner wheels.

In a nutshell though, the car is great.
