Maruti Swift is a nicely packaged ordinary car. I have a Vxi which I bought 2 months back. It gives me 10 kms. per litre mileage. The drive is not at all smooth. I feel like I am driving a truck.

Six months back, I decided to upgrade from Maruti 800, which I have been driving for the last 3 years with minimal problems. I was looking for a car which is comfortable to drive, would not cost me more than 6-7 lakhs. After going through sites like mouthshut and advice from friends, I shortlisted Indica (petrol) & Swift.

My attempts to get a test drive from Indica dealers was unsuccessful for quite some time even after repeated attempts. I finally decided that I would buy Swift as I liked its looks and was told that the mileage for the Vxi is also pretty decent at 13-14 kms. per litre of petrol.

I contacted all the dealerships and managed to get a test drive by three of them and finally decided to buy from RNS motors. The sales guy by name Avinash from their Hosur Road dealership promised a lot of freebies and managed to sign me up. After paying the advance amount, it was agreed that I would get the delivery of the vehicle on 2nd October, which was an auspicious day. I was told that I could pay the remaining amount (minus the car loan amount) could be paid by cheque on the day of delivery.

To my surprise, he called me up 3 days before the delivery date and told me that if I don't pay up the full amount, the car cannot be registered. I promptly gave him the cheque. He called me up the next day and told me that cheque won't do, only cash would do. I tried speaking to his manager, but that did not yield any result. So, I was forced to go to the dealership and pay the cash (it was a bank holiday on that Saturday).

I promptly went to take the delivery of the vehicle on Monday, October 2nd. I was surprised to see that the cash was not washed completely. Even some of the accessories (for which I had already paid) were not fitted. Registration had been done, but the number plate was not ready. He told me that insurance had been done, but cover note has not reached them. IT WAS A BIG MESS.

My advice to Maruti car buyers is NEVER TAKE DELIVERY OF THE CAR (ESPECIALLY RNS MOTORS) ON A HOLIDAY.

As Oct 3 also happened to be a holiday, I could not drive the new car for 2 days. I was forced to take the car (WITHOUT INSURANCE AND NUMBER PLATE) to the dealership and get the accessories fitted and get the insurance papers.

NEVER TRUST THE MARUTI SALES GUYS. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING.

I have been driving the car since 2 months now, but I am not at all happy with the car. The drive is not at all smooth. The mileage is very bad at around 10 kms per litre of petrol.

To top it all, I made the mistake of filling up the feedback form sent by Maruti. There I had clearly indicated my displeasure about the car and the dealership. Now the sales guy Avinash is after me again to know what was I unhappy about. I would have expected either Maruti or sales manager at RNS to contact me to get my feedback.

Now that there is so much choice of cars, I suggest mouthsht readers to consider buying cars other than from the Maruti stable. Even if you end up buying a Maruti car, I suggest you AVOID RNS MOTORS.
