My Dad purchased Swift Vxi in October 07 for me , a red one.Befor buying Swift I tried many other cars including Getz, Wagon R, Santro , but none excite me.The main thing that kept me hooked to Swift are its looks, pickup, decent features.So after doing 14000 kms I think I am fit to give a genuine review of this wonderful car.Lets go into the details.
1.)Design-This is the most desirable feature of the car, and is responsible for alluring customers even after its release 4yrs back.Nothing in its segment can come close to it in terms of design.Even after seeing it daily for nearly 18 months, it never ever bores me. The external build quality is also very gud.Recently I got hit by a truck on the rear door, I got out and could not find much damage other than a big scratch, which got covered up by the sevice centre perfectly.
2.) Engine-It sports a 1.3 ltr, 87 hp engine which never fails me during takeoff at traffic signals.Initially for 2 months I was not able to judge the geart ratios, but got used to them quickly and now I am able to do 80kmph in 13 sec.The engine is pretty smooth and u wont feel any kind of shrill even at 125kmph(my top speed).Its so quiet that some times I have to push the accelerator to check if its on.
3.) Handling-Handling is pretty gud and gets better with the speed.Between 30-40 u feel the steering to be bit tight, but once u cross 50, its handles better.While doing sharp corners at high speeds, the car would sway a bit, but thats what u feel in every small car.After 14000 I am so muched used to it, that I found it difficult to drive other cars like Ford Ikon, Getz, Santro etc.I could say that I am very much confident driving he car on any kind of terrain.
4.) Mileage-I am getting a mileage of 13-14 on city roads.Believe me I got a mileage of 17-19 on the highway, I found it on the recent trip to my native place which is about 540 to and fro from my place.I maintained an avg speed of 80 , max 110, with the A.C on.So that proves the engine efficiency.
5) Interiors-This is the only department where I got mixed feeling.The front seats r truly a drivers gift.They r very comfortable even for big guys( I am 6) and the seating postion is great. In the rear it is difficult for a tall person of 6ft or more, if the front seat is pulled full back.Other than that it is ok for guys of avg build, they have ample leg room.The AC works well.Although the plastics r well built, they r not exciting.And I feel that Maruti guys could have extracted more utility space from the dashboard.Other than few drawbacks the interiors are fine for a 5 Lac car.
Finally I conclude saying that Swift is a true drivers car and is intended for young urban families.And its worth all the money u put into the car.Afterall guys its a Maruti!!!From who else can u expect such a thing...
