The new SWIFT K1.2 series petrol engine. Review on Maruti Suzuki Swift

We all are familiar with the Ritz and the Swift. The Ritz has a better engine and as a result better fuel economy. The Swift has the engine which appeared in the Esteem in the 90s and is well if I am not rude “Dated” on the other hand the Swift has all the other castles conquered be it dynamics, driving position, styling or plainly the oomph factor. Now if only the Swift came with a better engine.

Well it’s here, the new Swift is about to come with the Ritz 1.2 litre petrol engine.The 1.2 Litre Ritz engine has the same torque and just slightly less power than the old 1.3 litre swift but what is interesting is that the new 1.2 will deliver that torque at much lower revs which means much better city driving, better acceleration and most of all better fuel economy .

Few advanced new things about the new engine are that it uses a better overhead camshaft mechanism than the older 1.3 which has just one cam and actuates 16 valves with the help of rockers which cause a lot of frictional losses. It also has injector mounted coils later that the conventional high tension cables running from the coils to the plug, this reduces resistive losses while current transfer and also helps maintain better spark timing control as there is no propagation delay.

Well, I won’t swamp you all with the technical jazz the fact of the matter is the new engine is very free revving, sounds much better has better drive and better fuel economy. Also, since the swift has always been about 20 kg lighter that the Ritz the engine will perform even better that it did in the Ritz.
