Maruti launched the new DZire in Feb 2015 and it is expected to continue to set the sales charts on fire. The original DZire was launched on 26th March 2008 and simply put, was the Swift hatchback with an added boot and a wee bit of extra rearpassenger space. A Maruti product with a diesel engine at a competitive price meant sure shot success for the sedan. The new DZire gets minor exterior styling changes, a whole lot of new equipment and tweaked engines.

The front end is all-new, like the new Swift which was launched in November 2014, though the radiator grille and bumper are slightly different from its hatchback sibling. Inside the DZire continues with the dual-tone treatment which makes the cabin look premium and spacious, unlike the all-black interiors of the hatchback. The faux wood strip on the front doors as well as below the side air-con vents up front looks premium. The new DZire has a longer wheelbase than the hatchback which liberates more leg and knee room. Further, the back-rest is reclined and the rear of the front seat scooped.

All these changes add up to more space at the back. The 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine ( basically the Fiat MultiJet engine) and the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor have been tweaked, making them even more efficient without a huge compromise on performance. According to ARAI, the diesel motor has an efficieny figure of 26.59 km/l as compared to 23.4km/l earlier! The petrol engine, as per ARAI, has an efficiency of 20.85 km/l now as compared to the pre-facelift model which delivered 19.1km to a litre. The Swift DZire is a well planted car, one which feels matured to drive, with the drive feel similar to cars much above its own category. Prices start at Rs 5.03 lakh and go up to 7.59 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. It is a great car and has brilliant value. Detailed analysis below.
