In a bid to counter the Swift’s flailing sales, which dipped by as much as 48 per cent in June 2016, Maruti Suzuki has rolled out the Swift DLX edition based on the entry-level LXi and LDi variants of the hatchback. Priced at INR 4.54 lakhs for the petrol version and INR 5.95 lakhs for the diesel version(both ex-showroom), the Swift DLX adds a handful of extra features over the bare LXi/LDi variants.

The added list of features available on the DLX variant include a Sony music system with Bluetooth/USB connectivity, FM radio and front door speakers, along with power windows on all doors, fog lamps and blacked out B-pillars. The Swift DLX also gets safety features such as engine immobilizer, smart warning indicators and child safety lock. The DLX edition continues to be powered by the existing, 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines, rated at 84.3 PS and 75 PS respectively. Both engines are only available with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Swift’s rapidly declining sales numbers can be largely attributed to the cannibalisation caused by the manufacturer’s own premium hatchback, the Baleno. Powered by the same engines as the Swift, the Baleno, armed with contemporary styling and more features, has seen over 100, 000 bookings and still accounts for a waiting period of 4-6 months. With the Swift getting a bit too long in the tooth now(next-generation model due in 2017), potential customers are drawn more towards the Baleno.
