In the month of December 2011 my Swift Dzire VDI would complete 3 year….that’s also when my EMIs get over .So I am very Happy:=). Since I have experienced this vehicle thoroughly for past 3 year….Here’s my take on the vehicle. I truly believe that you cannot compare one vehicle to another. What you can compare is your needs with someone else. So depending on your needs you usually turn up buying a vehicle….Otherwise who would buy a vehicle which you think is ugly….Right~ but they do sell.

You therefore have to first identify your needs and then buy your desired vehicle. So if you are looking for what I was~ then this review shall help you.

Pros:

§  Excellent Fuel Economy…(Very Good)

§  Low Maintenance Car

§  Big Boot Space

§  Decent Powerful Engine

Cons

§  Weak Body

§  Less Leg room behind…Little difficult for long drive.

§  Expensive

Pros in Detail:

§  What I really like about this vehicle is the fuel economy. In city it gives me 18kms/lit and on highways where you can drive non stop…it has given me an economy of 25kms/lit….I consider this kind of fuel economy phenomenal for a vehicle which will almost classify as a sedan….at least as a entry sedan.

§  The maintenance of the vehicle is also very low…e.g. I went almost 1 year with servicing. The car was running perfect. You also don’t need to service the vehicle every 2 -3 months. 2 service per year are sufficient. In these three year I did 1 big servicing which costed me INR 18, 000/- which I do think is high but when I compared this with other vehicles….It turns out to be decent amount.

§  I live in Mumbai and my native place is in Kolhapur which is approximately 420 kms from Mumbai. Me and my family of 4 always travel together to our native place…So we have good amount of luggage with us for a week.(Fyi: All grownup). All our luggage fits in perfectly in the boot of Swift Dzire….The space they have given is really big.  Also when we come back from Kolhapur we also carry some additional baggage. Once I carried 75kgs of Sugar(This is really heavy) with our regular luggage. Point which I am stressing…HUGE / Sufficient boot space.

§  Engine~ I give you an example here~ whenever in bumper to bumper traffic I am driving on a steep flyover….I just put my vehicle in second gear and leave it….The car moves on it’s own on a hill without any acceleration. I have clocked the vehicle @ 140kms/hr….Vehicle does not feel grounded at this speed…So if you are looking for something super super fast….this vehicle will not give you that thrill. But that does not mean it is not powerful. The 1.3 lit engine does respond to your needs at times.

Cons in Detail:

§  Swift Dzire is absolutely silent on a smooth good tar road…Does not make any noise…BUT on a rough road you will hear noise which does get to my nerves.  The body rattles which does not give you a secure feeling. I think the body of the vehicle is light…which also help to maintain the fuel economy.  So for the sake of economy you have to compromise on the vehicle’s weak body…The point which I am talking~ you shall see the difference when you drive a Honda City vs. Dzire.

§  The interior space of Dzire is the same of Swift. I would not have mind if the boot space would have been reduced a little for some more leg space. It would be have been good for my family. Since I drive always they are the ones who are sitting at the back end….On long drives little more leg space will make the journey comfortable. I am also saying this because the vehicle internally would feel bigger(which would be a nice feeling).

§  I bought my vehicle in Dec 2008 @ INR 7, 00, 000/- which I at this time 60-70, 000/- high. I am not sure what is the current value of the vehicle but then the resale value of any Maruti Suzuki Vehicle is much much better. Though the vehicle hasn’t given me any…I mean any major expense. I feel it is a good value for money. Try and squeezing the dealer for a lower price I think it is very much possible to get this vehicle for all in @ 6, 40, 000/-

Conclusion: If you are looking for a vehicle which looks good, gives excellent fuel economy, has decent powerful engine then this is THE vehicle for you.
