I really don’t know if my review on the SX4 will add any value to any reader – the reason: already so many reviews have been penned down that there is hardly any point left to be covered(or debated).
My allegiance to Maruti, however, obligates me to write this review. So, here I am putting my neck on the already bloodied block. Though, I would like to steer clear of any controversy, if I could. Also, I would refrain from commenting on the technical specifications of the car since these, and users’ views on them, have been extensively covered in other reviews. Instead, I would like to relate to you my experience with my new SX4 Zxi.
Quality – Many Meanings
The title of this review says everything. I had been driving another good car before this, for about 5 years – the Wagon R. Now when I drive my old car, at times, I get an odd feeling – as if it has turned into a sluggish old vehicle overnight!
In my view, it would be meaningless to compare the looks or performance of the SX4 with a City or a Fusion. Every car has its own specs, and quality only means adherence to those. The specs of each model are easily available. So, if at all, one may be justified in comparing the specs before deciding on a car to purchase. So, if the SX4 specs specify ABS or Air bags, and those of the City don’t, then that’s the way things are. There’s little point in complaining or comparing. I am sure, there are a few parameters on which the City would score above the SX4, and vice versa.
A Personal Choice
Buying a car is a high involvement purchase decision, and a very personal one at that. At least, it is, for me. I purchased the SX4 because of my trust on Maruti, because I love the looks of the car, because I loved the experience when I test drove it, and I am enjoying every bit of my post-purchase experience. So much so, that sometimes I invent reasons to drive it.
It’s far from sluggish, far from being cramped for internal space, its interiors are far from looking cheap, its stereo is far from being of inferior quality. You see – my reference frame is the Wagon R.
The very morning after I took the delivery, I drove to Chandigarh and back, with AC on most of the time. I got a mileage of close to 15 kmpl – tank full to tank full. I am myself pleasantly surprised – and I am no novice in estimating fuel efficiency of a car.
Once or twice, when my patience had been tried to the limit by some reckless guy on an Ikon, or a Verna, I have tried pressing the accelerator a little harder than my usual. And, to my great satisfaction, on such occasions, I have always left the others far behind. As I said, I am loving it.
