I have purchased a Ritz VXI in Sep 09 but till date has covered only 4500 kms. There are 2 reasons for less running - this is my second car and I had an accident for which the vehicle was out of the road for a month.
My daily travel is around 100 kms. Any sane person would suggest me for a diesel vehicle, considering the price difference of petrol & diesel. But since I have burnt my fingers in buying an INDIGO-DICOR and now spending like anything for the maintenance ( refer my review on INDIGO DICOR), I made up my mind to buy a petrol and only petrol vehicle. Although RITZ, SWIFT, VISTA are all fitted with FIAT's diesel engine, which is trusted, reliable but.
As I read in this forum, RITZ fuel efficiency will improve after 10, 000 kms, I am eagerly waiting to achieve that. Right now I am getting an average of 12 ~ 14 kmpl @ average speed of 50~60 kph.
Now, the caution to all RITZ owner. One day, I parked my car on a footpath and while bringing it down, a stone hit the underside. No harm was noticed. Next day, I could see some oil droplets in my parking. Without paying much attention while I took the car on the road, after about 500 m, the car suddenly stopped. When it refused to crank, I called the workshop and they towed the car. After investigating, they informed that the oil chamber has developed an opening and due to absence of oil - the engine has seized. Since the insurance compnay ( HDFC ERGO) paid only for the oil pan, I had to pay for the half engine. The total bill on 1/1/10 was Rs. 38, 000. I started my new year with the car repair. When I checked in depth, I found that there is no protection for the oil sump. Hence guys & gals, please be vigilant while driving your RITZ over some stone and do check your oil level regularly.
The verdict is go ahead and buy this product as this has the EURO-IV compliant engine ( to be effective in India from 1/4/10).
