Alto k10,amazing performance from maruti

I bought a k10 in October and have driven the car for 1800 kms till now. I also have a SANTRO xing and I will compare my experience of having driven both cars.


SANTRO XING is in Delhi n alto k10 is in Hyderabad




  • 1st alto k10- the car has amazing pick up. Slot it into any gear and it is eager to sprint. The acceleration is great n you could feel the engine delivering power. 1st time I have seen a Maruti hatchback so responsive other than swift n ritz. The gearshift is slick. You can slot it effortlessly. I have made a trip from Hyderabad toguntur and back and the drive was amazing. Brakes are good. AC very powerful, reasonable space.




Now the comparison -




  1. The gear shift of both the cars is slick and smooth. The only difference is SANTRO requires short throws whereas k10 requires long throws. 2. SANTRO is sluggish in the 1st n 2nd gears but smoothens out in 3-5 gears and then becomes sluggish even in 5th gear after the speed of 80 kmph but continues to accelerate whereas k10 is amazing throughout right from 1st gear to 5th gear. The engine delivers smooth power at all speeds.3. Rear ride quality in SANTRO is bumpy and one could feel the bump from the road whereas k10 reduces the impact of the bumps. Conclusion alto k10 has better rear suspensions.4. Fuel economy - well I have got 17 kmpl in Delhi traffic from my santro xing and I expect same mileage for k10 as well. 5. build quality- this is where SANTRO XING wins. The fit n finish is amazing. My car has completed 6 years and still there are no squeaking sounds. As far as k10 goes the fit n finish is very poor.




I could see big gaps in door sills. I could hear squeaking sounds. The feel when you close or opens doors is not upto the mark. Conclusion - when I close the doors of SANTRO XING they make the "JHIG" sounds whereas the doors of k10 make a "DHAK" sound.6. High speed drive -I have never noticed a body roll but I am sure SANTRO being a tall boy would have considerable body roll whereas alto k10 was very stable at speeds of 120 kmph. 7. SANTRO XING gives me a more upmarket feel because extra head room which itself increases the sense of spaciousness. K10 feels cramped. Getting in and out in k10 is a difficult job but a breeze in SANTRO. 8. Steering control is excellent in both SANTRO XING and alto k10. Both have electronic power steering.


The issues I have been facing with k10- the left rear door does not close properly.- the hatch does not lock properly and I have to slam it to lock it.


Rest the car is amazing and I would recommend the car to everyone.
