I bought my Alto Lxi about seven months ago. This is my first car and I could afford only this. With one person, the car is okay. But with four persons sitting and the AC on, a bullock cart will perhaps be faster. Of course, one cannot expect much from the 796cc engine.

I have had a problem for some time though. As I start my car for the first time in the day and press the acclerator pedal a little, there is a screeching noise. The Maruti service people say it is the fifth gear noise and is common. I don't see why there should be such a noise in my car when it does not happen in other Altos. I wrote to the company and they were prompt in calling me up. That I have to admit. However, the problem still remains unresolved even after several visits to the service station. I am fed up of visiting the service station. I get a new explanation every time I visit the garage. Sometimes they say that since I have not run my car much, the gear oil needs to get into all crevices etc and hence the noise. At other times, they say that it happens. The service people of Mandovi Motors in Bangalore are not able to give me a proper explanation. And they call me up regularly to find out how my car is. I tell them that the noise is still there. They ask me to bring the car to the service station again. And the process is repeated. This will probably be my last Maruti Suzuki if my car noise is not resolved. Any other Alto owners with a similar problem, please please let me know.
