I've been reading reviews on Mouthshut of each and everything I want to or wish to buy/use.Mouthshut has been a platform for ppl like me, who are in need of some sound/practical advise before putting our hard earned money in a product.
So, now I guess its my obligation to contribute to this marvelous platform of Mouthshut. I have bought my first car an Alto Lx 2007, silky silver.
When I had made up my mind to buy a car, I was mostly searching for second hand cars. As my budget was on the tight side. But, as I had just completed my driving classes and a novice in car technology. I was afraid of the many loopholes in buying a used car, which could easily be a lemon.
After nearly 3 months of searching all used cars from m800’s to Hyundai accents. I was getting dejected. Then one fine day I happened to pass by the new maruti showroom near my place. I entered the showroom and was greeted by a pleasant looking sales person.
I straight away told this person about my budget limit and he readily showed me the alto, though I was much interested in an Omni, unfortunately I did not fit into the driving seat, as I am 6’ tall. Then he showed me the Alto and believe me I never in my search of 3 months looked at an Alto as I despised it for its confused looks. However, fate it seems is not without a sense of irony. The moment he gave me the financial aspects of this car, I just pulled out my blank cheque, got all the documents, and signed the deal within an hour. When you compare the overall, EMI’s of a new Alto to second hand one on loan, the new car seems to be much cheaper and you have this peace of mind.
I still cannot imagine that I have an Alto for my first car. It has been a year and a half and I have not regretted my spontaneity yet. It rides well though underpowered it does quite well for a first time car owner with a limited budget. The mileage is quiet good. The AC chills you and comforts you from the sultry humid Mumbai sun, there you go every penny you spent is worth it.
Though me being a 6’ footer still I have no problems while ingress/egress. I have never banged my head to the roof. The rear is a little cramped up for my tall friends. My family has had no issue with it. Though the car has to be pushed when its on AC, the AC seems to suck out all the energy from the engine and you feel a need for a much powerful engine.
Until now I had no major problems with it, never has it stalled or troubled me on my long tours. And, of course apart from the service center extras cost and the fuel cost it has not burnt a h*le in my pocket.
