On 30.06.2006 I purchased Maruti Alto-LXi from Modern Automobiles, Ambala City, Haryana. Modern Automobiles, Ambala is Authorised Dealer of Maruti Udyog Ltd. (MUL). Before purchase of car the sales agent had promised fitting of Mud-flaps free of cost but after purchase they denied its availability at that point of time. Their answer remained same on later dates also while an enquiry with store in charge revealed that the flaps were there in stock. Further, the feed-back forms (received from dealer as well as MUL) filled up by me indicated that I was supposed to be detailed about warranty terms, service manual, maintenance and features of the vehicle but none of these was done. The above briefings were very important in my case as this was my first car and I knew nothing about the cars and I had categorically mentioned to the sales agent about my ignorance towards cars. Moreover, I didn't know that I was also paying for 3rd year Extended Warranty which is OPTIONAL. Further, As per EXTENDED WARRANTY BOOKLET, this OPTIONAL EXTENDED WARRANTY had further two options. This Extended Warranty with an option selected by themselves was imposed on me without my knowledge and without seeking my option. As per instructions in the Owner's Manual I booked in advance for first service of car but the vehicle was delivered back to me (after so called service) without washing, in a dirtier condition, with a minor scratch and dent on the car and without attending to the three defects reported by me. On my objections to non-attending of above defects, the service manager promised to pick-up the vehicle from my residence for washing and above repairs but it never happened. My email to MUL at contact@maruti.co.in was replied with an assurance that their Regional Service Manager would contact me but nobody approached me. At last I myself contacted MUL Regional Office at Chandigarh. Firstly, the dealing official asked me to wait for his phone call and didn't telephone me at all. Two days later on my reminder call he asked me to bring the car to Modern Automobiles, Chandigarh. At Modern Automobiles, Chandigarh, washing and rectification of defects were done. But I had to drive the vehicle for 100KM for this job whereas my city has one Authorised Dealer Workshop and three Maruti Authorised Service Centers (MASS). A defective glass/plastic cover was replaced but with another used one carrying scratches whereas the workshop people claimed having replaced with a new one A few days later I handed over shining car to Authorised Dealer workshop at Modern Automobiles, Ambala City for replacing a "fender" but at the time of receiving it back the awful condition of car shocked me. It was completely dust-ridden. The paint work done on the fender was of very poor quality. It is not expected from Authorised Dealer's workshop which is graded as top category workshops by MUL. Next morning when I tried to clean (dust off) the car I was stunned to observe that the whole car was under the cover of spray of white paint. The surface was as that of a sandpaper. THIS WAS THE EXTREME OF CARELESSNESS AND MISHANDLING. I drove the car to the workshop. There, four service personals recklessly rubbed my car for more than two hours using waxpol/sandpaper/a rubbing machine. It was quite painful to see the brand new factory painted car being rubbed for hours. This man & machine operation gave some smoothness to the car surface. This smoothness, probably due to a coating of wax, turned out to be superficial as after washing the car a few days later revealed uneven surface smoothness and uneven paint on bonnet. I showed this condition the workshop people again. When I tried to speak with the branch manager of Authorised Dealer, he avoided listening to me. The workshop people asked me to leave the vehicle (for further rubbing). The officer at Regional office suggests the same answer i.e., to go to another workshop but I do not want to keep this vehicle whose factory finish has been disturbed. The branch manager, Modern Automobiles Ambala City refuses having received my written complaint which I delivered by hand and got it received under sign and stamp on its photocopy. The complaints sent by courier to The Chief General Manager (Service), Advisor Engineer and their Head Office at Delhi are still unresponded. A complaint by email and various reminders are still not replied. Now I have the last option to move to consumer forum. I have sought the help of ICRPC at Thane, Mumbai. I shall seek either full refund or replacement of car. I realize that it would be a long process but I am determined to fight it up till end. Please wish me a good luck. I thankfully welcome any suggestion, advice from any quarter, which can help me in my fight with MUL.
