Hey Guys, Never thought I would come back to you so soon after my first review on A-Star a week ago, but here is some breaking news on the A-Stars Mile Stone Achievement. Maruti had organized “The Unbeatable Mileage Rally”, in Pune yesterday, 05th April 2009.

I was one of the participants, the rally track was of 60kms covering the city and highway, we had to cover 7 check points and had to report back from where we had took off, the winner would be the car with best mileage. There were 125 enthusiastic participants; we were given the route map, snack, water and cool drinks for the journey.

The fuel tanks were taken care of by Maruti, as all participants got a tank full of petrol before and after the rally. Participation gifts were also distributed to all. The rally drive experience was amazing, a huge convoy of A-Stars were seen on the streets and onlookers were curious to know what’s happening? It was real fun.Now here s the breaking news I won the Rally, I was ranked Number

  1. by the judges, for an awesome Mileage of 33.2Kms per liter. I was awarded the prize of Rs.35000/- . The average Mileage of first 10 winners was 28.5 Kms/Liter.

It was a wonderful event with games, food and fun, and sacrificing Sunday morning was worth it.Hey Guys this is my first review on Mouthshut.

After about a months research (thanks to all the negative ratings by various self-proclaimed automobile gurus on various websites) and contemplation I decided to buy the Maruti A-Star (purchase date 27th Feb 09, Millennium Motors Pune). After considering the options like i-10, Spark, Palio and new Indica, A-Star clearly stood out for me.

When I went to the Hundai showroom the salesman showed me a big cutting where Santro was compared with A-Star and how Santro was better. I guess it’s the inflated ego of Hundai to think that A-Star does not compete with i-10.

But for me the A-Star clearly is a clear winner on Style, Mileage, Interior Color combination, Looks, New Aluminum Engine and environmental friendly concerns. Some people say that the rear windows are very narrow (which is not), and hey guys thats the latest international trend and initially all new things are criticized, (one should sit in rear and take a test drive to get convinced).

I have completed 1000Kms till date and my experience is exhilarating. the pickup, the steering, the road grip, the turning radius and the gear shift is simply amazing. I fell in Love with the A-Star when I took the first test drive, and I keep falling in love over and over again.

I went on a drive Pune to Junnar return journey (210 kms), the car is sturdy and stable on the highway and you feel the road grip at 120 + Kms/hr speed. I did not feel tired neither there was back strain; I was as fresh as I could have been. The City mileage is 20 kms and the highway mileage was 22kms (A/C On/Off drive) I have given my vehicle for first servicing today. Most people say that there is less boot space.

But I could fit a large size suitcase easily with one air bag. One has to think as to how many times we are going to carry huge luggage’s around? Moreover if the rear seats are flattened there is a huge space of about 300 liters which one gets.

Again one has to think as to how many times he will travel with 5 people with big bags, most of the people travel alone or with one passenger. In my 4 years of driving I drove the car alone or with my partner 95 % of the time. And I traveled with 5 people with luggage only 4 times. So I think if one takes out the % of these occasions it would help them decide.

The rear seat is not at all cramped and 5 people fit in perfectly with a height of 5.7ft average; in fact the front seats can accommodate 6.2 footers easily. This is a style statement, it’s a head turner, people turn around to see what car is it, and it feels real good.
