I still remember the day when my dad bought a new Maruti 800. It was some where in early 84. It’s been a tiny, new in design (for that period of time) and brown colour car. At that time we were in our childhood days. We had no Idea how a car should be. For us it was a new car and that was enough to get excited.
First day in the evening my dad took us on a drive. We started from our home at Kurla and almost travel south of Bombay that evening. We enjoyed it very much and from that day till today Maruti is a part of our life.
From its launch in December 83, till now Maruti 800 has under gone a lot of changes in its specification, exterior and interior design. In early days not too many colours were available. But now you imagine your colour and you will get it.
Today’s 800 model have some of the following features.
It has front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. Over all Height measures 1405 mm, where length measures 3335 mm and Width 1440mm. A good powerful 4-cycle water cooled 796 cc engine. Max Power 39.5 hp @ 5500 rpm. Max torque 5.7 kgm @ 2500 rpm. 5 speed manual transmission. Manual rack and pinion type steering. Fuel tank capacity 30 liters and fuel efficiency approx 18 kmpl.
The deluxe version comes with air conditioning. The difference between today’s model and earlier is of suspension and redial tyres.
A lot of things has been said about cars body that its very delicate hence it is not safe to travel in this car. But in this 17 – 18 years yet nothing like that felt by us. Even in this period we change three models and still enjoying our ride.
The body of Maruti 800 absorbs the impact of collision and protect the passenger.
It is a car which has proven and tested its efficiency on Indian roads over a period of time.
These all comes for a cheaper price as compare to other brand models of same category .
Even though now we have two different brand models, I still prefers to travel in my Maruti 800.
