The maruti 800.the punny little car you see driving down the street which is one of the most popular cars you can find in the country (maruti countrywide huh).the first time I ever went in an 800 was when my grandma bought it in 1997.i should say good for a middle class cheap car.cheap is exact adjective for this car though.

ENGINE- hmmmm lets take a peek under the hood.wow that engine looks tiny..ok its 800 cc.there are two versions of this engine though.in the standard engine you will get about 39.5 bhp at about 5500 rpm while in the EX and DX models you have 45 bhp at 6000 rpm.but the car is not exactly 800 cc its about 796 cc.oh even smaller.grandma you have a match box under the hood.the car has now been scrapped of the traditional carburetter and has got the mpfi kit.oh goody the match box finally has some contents in it. plus its equipped with 3 cylinders and 12 valves.the maximum torque you get out of the standard version is about 5.7@2500 rpm aiyayie id get better torque out of riding a tricycle.the EX and DX versions have about 6.3@3000 rpm.

TRANSMISSION-

the transmission seems to have gone up by one and only available in the EX and DX series.the standard version still has the old 4 speed manual.huh might as well buy a fiero for a cheaper price.sorry signal out of reach your transmission has been terminated.

INTERIORS-

pretty bad I should say.for about 2 lacs I could go for a second hand santro with better interiors.the interiors have this traditional plasticky look that looks like has been taken from those third rate toy factories.the dull interiors also gives the feel of driving a miniature herse.

the upholstery is a laugh.the basic upholstery look like my bathroom mat which everybody walk over and is over looked.i guess that has been overlooked by the maruti executives.

ok the space in the cars is also pathetic.i think maruti is trying to build a reputation of having the least amount of car space.sitting behind the wheel.please it feels like being folded up in one of those hospital beds where your knee caps go straight into your eye sockets.and a big footer like me has to have his foot has to be cranked out every time he steps out of the car.the roof is also really low.now you know what head banging is (as you are rocked about in that car).the space at the back feels like the polar ice caps melting and the land being swallowed up by the sea.come on maruti im sure you guys have enough money to redo it.

the boot space is also really tiny.remember when the BMW Z3 was tested on top gear and they could fit only one briefcase in the boot.the maruti can fit about 3. so 3 percent better than the z3 boot space.we all know its a small car but not with everything.

EXTERIORS-

well like always whenever maruti brings out a new car or so called new model of the previous car its only the radiator grill, tail lights and some of the trim on the car that has been changed and in each case the price has been raised by 25 to 50,000 and like fools we buy it.its certainly has that look of a lunch box from the outside.the colours except for the new ones are nice.the new ones with the themes?yuk! I think the colours are disgusting.they all look like that rotting chewing gum thats been stuck under the desks in classrooms for the past 5 years.the basic design hasnt been changed since the car first came out.

maruti also seems to have the traditional flimsy exterior.its like a paper doll.you could just rip in half.gaining fuel efficieny at the cost of safety.

HANDLING-

a little sluggish.the tyres are to small.the look as small as the ones on the autorickshaws.

FUEL EFFICIENCY-

ah the small piece of thread that the maruti 800 has been hanging on to.it gives about 17 kilometers a litre.one of the reasons that this little insect of car has been so popular.the fuel tank capacity is also about 30 litres.

OVERALL-

overall that car is pathetic and I think its high time they buried it.the engine is too small to even pull when the ac is on and it struggles up inclines.though the car gives a good mileage the power of its engine is quite sad.the interiors can looks a little nice and welcoming.the seating could be softer and not feel like those chairs you need to sit on when go to the local police station.the leg space could be improved for the growing generations otherwise it will be like driving a go cart.the engine capacity could be increased.my god thats what is present in foreign bikes.

but the car is good enough for the person just starting his/her job and is a cheap car to buy.but id still like.plus 2.5 lakhs some more could be provided with it.
