I have travelled often into Mozambique. Incidently on business but have extensively seen the place. The best time of the year to travel is during August-september. This is their end of winter season and weather is lovely.

Mozambique is a lovely place with super friendly people. It is a portugues teritory hence the atmosphere is just fun loving.

Language spoken is Portuguese. Few do speak english now.

I enjoyed the food places as they have the worlds most stunning seafood. The mozambican prawns for example are the worlds largest prawns. Prawns and Lobsters I would put on top of the list. (Prawns are around 8-9inches large)

There are some wonderfull places around Maputo too.One can go by driving or by cabs. Some place are Bilen, Chanchai beach etc. What is very good is also to just have a 25km drive along the seafront road leading to an end of the road where there is a restaurant called Costa Do Sol. ( Lunch time is best). A beutifull drive along the sea trminates in a lovely refreshing beer and a great meal of stuffed lobsters at the restauarant. And the experience of a small boy in shorts and dripping all over bringing you freshly caught lobsters from the sea is just amazing.

Night life is another attraction. Mozambicans dont seem to be sleeping through the night. They party at the few discos around the city.

Polana is the one old 5 star hotel which has seen through all the 18 yrs of civil war. However there are a variety of new hotels that have come up ranging from $50 to 200 per night.

Once there one must visit north Mozambique too. You cannot miss attractions like the Bazaruto Island and the Pemba shore.

How to get there: Through Johannesburg (South Africa). You may fly or take a 6 hr bus ride along the countriside, or just hire a car from SA and drive through.

Visa is required which can be obtained from either south africa or country of travel.

Owing to the civil war not many people travelled here. Hence some of its natural beuty was totally unknown. This is still unknown due to unawareness amongst international travellers. Alos sort of over powering tourism department of SA one does not get to know of the raw wonder in its neighbourhood.

It is a must for all who enjoy the Road Not Taken.
