?Mansfield Park? is just another romantic and beautiful piece of literature off Ms. Jane Austen?s pen, and it does have her trademark lucidity as do her other works. Though not as detailed as the celebrated ?Pride and Prejudice?, the conviction and character of the heroine, Fanny Price, I feel, is quite comparable to that of Elizabeth Bennett. Fanny may not be as bold as Elizabeth, but her composure speaks volumes of the flame that burns within her. She is a sincere and sweet girl, intelligent but with no airs. She just takes life in the stride, is very affectionate of her family and friends, much rather like Jane Bennett, I should say.
Fanny Price comes to live with her Aunt, Lady Bertram, at Mansfield Park at age 10. She is terrified about the sudden change in her life, for her original home was much smaller and less grander and she dearly missed her older brother William here. With help of Edmund, her cousin, Lady Bertram?s younger son, with whom she shares a special relationship of confidentiality early on, she adapts to normal life in a good society until age 15, when a series of events change things at Mansfield Park forever.
I will not reveal too much of the story, for it is an experience I would like everyone to enjoy just the way Ms. Austen wanted her readers to. So, grab a copy and settle down for a lovely romantic afternoon.
