Brilliant Indian Film Noir Stuff . Review on Manorama Six Feet Under

I have watched alot of movies this year and the ride has been quite bumpy considering RGV's flicks, any movie starring Tushhar Kapoor, Yashraj's dumb movies, hashmi "thrillers". And amongst them there are films like manorama that have gone unnoticed and that is sad.

Manorama Six Feet Under( Maybe a less complicated title would have improved it's box office collection) starts off in a quaint town somewhere in Rajasthan with a PWD employee, Satyaveer(deol) being suspended regarding a bribery offense.He has a simple wife(panag) who sometimes can be quite demanding and a kid. He is also a(failed) writer of sorts, with his only book published being'manorama' which has bombed miserably. He is bored of his life and then one day a lady called manorama(sarika) comes upto his house asking for his help in keeping an eye on his supposedly cheating husband. SV agrees to do the job for the money and also for some excitement.

This kicks off the movie into a downward spiral of sorts for SV, he becomes obsessive with the things he finds out about the case and delves into a labyrinth of complex characters whose motives he not quite sure about. He seeks some help from his brother-in-law(vinay) who is police officer.

As he gets more and more involved he starts to risk his own life at the cost of finding out what the hell is going on afterall. Along the way he encouters various characters, like those of Raima Sen, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, some goonies et all, whom motives you will find out better if you watch the movie for yourself.

Ok, I agree what I have written above may not be quite comprehensible but this movie is like that only, you have to watch for youself because it has got a brilliant script, something very extra-ordinary and very rare to find in bollywood.

On the acting front, it is studded with fine performances lead by the narrative of abhay deol, who is slowly evolving to be a better actor, atleast he is not hamming like bobby or saying English swear words with a hindi accent like dharam paji(refer Jhonny G, "You saaaan of a beeeech":D)

Gul panag, Raima sen have well defined roles and perform to their best capability, vinay phatak is again splendid in his small role( he continues to amaze me, with his choice of movies). Also a special mention to the two goonies.

This movie's USP lies in the slick and taut direction of Navdeep Singh. He know EXACTLY what he is doing. He weaves a compex web of characters and adds a healthy dose of black humor(which all may not notice)  and makes one hell of a movie.

I am giving 1 star extra to this movie, as I support this kind of cinema. CHEERS
