Manmadhan - UthHeaven Music Review

Yuvan Shankar Raja has been not making much of a noise recently mainly due to the fact that he is not delivering super hits that he used to do some time back. Remember Poovelllam Kaetu Paar, Dheena, April Mathathil, Kadhal Kondaen etc. He has a good chance to bounce back with Simbhu's Manmadhan. The movie has a youthful story and a team full of energy to make it a super hit. Are the songs up to the mark? Will Yuvan give us a super duper hit? Read on ...

The album starts with Thathai Thathai sung by Simbhu, Clinton, Blazee and Vasundhara Das. The beats and rap are ok and the song slowly grows unto you. Blazee does a average job with his rap and Vasundhara gives her best to raise the level of this song. Lyrics penned by Vaali are ok. Good peppy song. Manmadhanae sung by Sadhana Sargam is up next. This song is in the same mold of Snethithane and Vaseegara but no where near the quality of those two. The tune and beats are good and the lyrics by Snehan are good. Yuvan could have introduced a new singer instead of Sadhana to infuse more freshness in the vocals.

Then we have the most bizarre song in this album Oh Mahirae sung by Anushka who was part of the VIVA pop group. This song is a mixture of techno and some other stuff but it is so jarring at times that you hate it then but slowly after some hearing you may start to like it. Lyrics penned by P.A.Vijay are average.

Then we have Vanamunna a folkish number sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Sreeram. Naa. Muthukumar takes the lyrical honours but the song and lyrics disappoint. We have a remix of Enn Aasai Mythilae sung by Simbhu and Suchithra and once again we have a dud remix like we had one in Kurumbu. But the next song Kadhal Valathein sung differently by K.K is a good one. The lyrics penned by Naa. Muthukumar is good and the tune and vocals make it much better. All the songs will depend a lot on the picturisation to become popular with the masses.

So we have 6 songs and Yuvan has tried a lot in almost all of them but sadly though the experimentation doesn't seem to work this time. The beats are good. Simbhu himself has done some rhythm arrangements but the tune is the most important part of a song. The beats, vocals and the lyrics are there only to uplift the tune and not overshadow the tune. Sadly though in Manmadhan they overshadow the tune and make us feel a bit irritated at times. Yuvan does not create the old magic nor some thing new. This attempt can be described as average and not extra ordinary.
