On may 30th -

My son who was a month old was having dysentery for couple of days, he was taken to sanjivini children clinic (jayanagar 7th block, bangalore-70) on 30th may 2012, the pediatrician dr.vivekanand m kustagi said the baby was having fever & stomach infection for which he prescribed medicine, as per his instruction we were giving medicine to my baby for reducing fever & dysentery. The same medicine were given to the baby on 31st may too.

On 1st june, 2012

We found his dysentery was ok but temperature did not come down, the same day we went to consult dr.vivekanand m kustagi, he suggested us to take the baby to manipal hospital (which is quite far from kanakapura road so he suggested deepak hospital beside his clinic, so we went there immediately where they found the baby's oxygen level is 85 to 90% & since they doesn’t have more facility in the hospital they told us to move to the bigger hospital, again dr.vivekanand m kustagi called us to go manipal hospital ..(i hope dr. Kustagi gets more commission if he sends his patient to manipal hospital). As per dr.vivekanand m kustagi’s instruction we moved to manipal hospital immediately from deepak hospital, moreover dr.vivekanand m kustagi gave us 100% confident that the baby is going to be ok if he gets treatment in manipal hospital , trusting his words we rushed to manipal hospital . Dr. Sumana rao at manipal hospital who examined my baby said they observed some problem in the baby's heart. Myself & my wife were in shock to hear that. Dr.vivekanand m kustagi who came to the hospital told us my son has problem in his heart so he has to undergo bt shunt surgery which was suggested by rascal expert surgeon dr.devanand.n.s (expert in taking lives). Initially dr.vivekanand m kustagi said the surgery can be done after 3 to 4 months of time.. In a short while he again came to us & said that the baby has to be admitted in the main center of manipal hospital & the surgery has to be done immediately. We didn’t understand anything, we were totally blank and these rascals doctors didn’t give us time to go for second opinion or any thoughts. We had no choice & no time for anything, trusting these doctors’ words we admitted our one month old baby in the hospital.

On 2nd june, 2012

We were called to meet the useless dr. Devanand (expert) at 12.45pm after the echo test was performed, he said nothing to worry, he promised our baby is going to be fine, he gave us lecture comparing himself with the usa doctors...saying in united states of america no doctors will give 100% assurance, whereas he can give 100% assurance....& he said these days surgeries have become common in babies, we believed his promise (100% guarantee) but this rascal never tried to explain what was actually happening with my son... We were not properly explained about the problem nor given time to go for the second opinion & not given chance to think what to do next.. All decided by the doctors themselves... We were just informed to pay rs. 2 lacs for the surgery.

As a parent we will think only about the baby's well being so we were doing as per the doctor's instruction which was a blunder mistake from our side. We paid rs. 2lacs for the surgery. My son was feeling hungry & he was active pushing his legs & shaking his hands & crying for more milk & he was looking at us with his cute eyes (which myself & my wife never forget in our entire life )

On 3rd june, 2012

As usual we saw our baby that morning, he was sleeping & my wife fed him at 12pm, he was demanding for more milk & he was active, we felt does he require this surgery & we couldn’t believe he had problem in his heart. I really regret now at least by then i should have gone for the second opinion. Being a normal person i myself felt a surgery is too much for a month old baby...how can a doctor who is meant to save a life is so careless in handling a life??..that night at 9.30pm we went inside icu to feed the baby, he was happily drinking milk and active & looking at my wife & me for the last time, we didn’t even realize that’s going to be last time we are going to see him active & live. We miss him terribly...

On 4th june, 2012:

As per the schedule my son was taken to operation theatre at 6.30am & the surgery was over by 12pm. We were called by the consulting dr to see our baby & doctor said the surgery was successful & he was kept in observation & he will be fine. When i saw my son was not in conscious & was fully equipped with machines for oxygen, ventilators etc.. Etc. Then we met the expert rascal devanand even then he told us nothing to worry.. He is going to be all right. We felt happy and relaxed.. Around 3pm we got a call from the hospital saying they had to go for revision surgery as the first surgery in vain & the consulting doctor told us dr. Devanand will call us & discuss about the second surgery.. We were waiting in the reception for the doctor's call but at 8.15 pm nurse called me to say that the second surgery is over and we can come & see the baby. When we saw our baby he was unconscious & he was pale.. Immediately seeing the baby my wife said something wrong he was not looking ok but i convinced her saying this could be because of anaesthesia... Because i trusted these doctors will save my child...even then i was told my child was doing ok after the second surgery but my son was already dead.. I dint realize at that moment.

Around 12am (june 5th, 2012) midnight i got a call from the hospital that the baby's pulse is going down & told us to come to the hospital immediately, by the time i reached the hospital around 1:30am they told they couldn’t save my child & handed over the body immediately. I was in full of tears & shock.. I didn’t understand what to do that midnight.. I brought my son home... This is really unbearable..i pray no one should face this kind of situation like i faced..i was told by my friends & relatives to go to hospital with the dead baby to fight with them and ask for justice but i was not ready then..

After two days, i asked for my son’s medical summary in which they have mentioned…

My son was brought to the hospital at a very critical condition which is a big lie..

My son was not active & not fed for couple of days… that’s the biggest lie.. My wife was feeding him till the previous night of the surgery.. He was active & looking at his poor parents..

My son’s oxygen level was 85 to 90% but in the report they have 40 to 45% which is ridiculous…

Few days later i consulted a doctor with my son's report, he said my son had a problem in his heart but it was a curable problem only and surgery could have been done after 3 or 4 months as he was just a month old, he was too small for this surgery. I don't understand one thing. What is the meaning of "expert" ?? An expert should make possible with something which is impossible...but this expert dr. Devanand made the possible into impossible & screwed our happiness by taking our only son's life.

Finally, i want to say just one thing please, please, please, please, please.... Think & act in this kind of situation... Never trust doctors 100% (especially doctors in manipal hospital ).. These doctors beggars will not give us time for the sake of money but please take some time to think about it & decide to proceed further because my loss is indigestible & my family still not out of this shock & tears...

Please take care of your loved ones…

With lots & lots of tears & regrets…
