Mandagadde, a small village, which resides on the way to thirthahalli from shimoga, provides a wide range of weekend acitivities for city dwellers. The travel was around 315 kms from Bangalore oneway.(Bangalore - Tumkur- Tiptur - Shimoga - Mandagadde) We did the travel on last week of May 2008, to this heavenly place.

Places of Interest in and around Mandagadde:

  1. Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary.( 2kms)

  2. Sakrebayalu Elephant Camp.(15 kms)

  3. Gajanur Dam.( 5kms from Sakrebayalu)

  4. Boat ride on Gajanur Dam back waters.( 2km from Sakrebayalu)

We had booked our accomodation at Inchara Home stay at Mandagadde, a very huge estate with 5 to 6 individual cottages with food( both Veg & Non veg) maintained very well, by Mr.Ramesh, Owner of the estate. Its 2 kms interior from Madagadde. An cool place surrounded by Arecanut plantations. Excellent place of newly weds I would say.

We had our breakfast in the morning and reached Sakrebayalu elephant camp. Amazing, there were around 8 elephants along with their Mahouts, they bring these elephants daily to the camp in the morning and all visitors can wash the elephants in the backwaters. This was really cool experience for me being with the elephant for almost 2 hrs in the water. And later we took the boat ride in Gajanur dam back waters. The boat guy took us around 1 hr ride into the river, the river banks are a great oppurtunity for professional photographers for their bird photographs.

Later in the day we had been to the Bird Sanctuary, again 2 kms from Mandagadde. Our friends spent a lot of time taking photographs of different bird species. And Agumbe is just an other 65 kms from this place. And Agumbe has a very loving sun set spot.
