I had heard and read a lot about this almost heaven on earth kind of place-Malshej Ghat. So I decided to visit this place - with family. Reaching Malshej wasn't a problem at all as the road from Pune via Nasik Road - Alephata - Atur to Malshej was very smooth. Since it's the rainy season, nature was in full bloom. We reached the foot of Malshej and began our ascent. It was truly an amazing sight with huge and small waterfalls everywhere, greenery engulfing the hills, mist and clouds on the road. For a moment you really feel that there could be no place beautiful than this. I also wondered why do people think about Switzerland and other exotic locales abroad when in India we have places more exotic than we thought. The fog gets dense with every passing moment and gets cleared somewhat after a brief heavy spell of rain. Nature was truly at it's best at Malshej.

But, you just can't really enjoy this without being disgusted or maybe even scared. Reason? At every few meters on this ghat are huge group of drunken guys who create havoc on roads. As they are heavily drunk, they do not have any sense. They are so oblivious to other passer-by's that they feel no shame in dancing in their inner wear in the middle of roads with beer bottles in their hands and on their heads. They even block the vehicles plying on the ghat. It all is very obscene to the eye. Girls, children, and people with family members just can't enjoy here as these crowds also block the waterfalls and if anyone tries to encroach "their" place - God save that person.

I am surprised that people can behave in this manner in a public place and create nuisance to others. So, the next time you plan a try tp Malshej, make sure you have a huge group and are ready in every way to tackle these mobsters.

A beautiful place loosing its charm due to unsocial elements of the society.
