The last time when I had to move out of Dubai/Sharjah, I was wondering about my next destination Malaysia. I have spent almost a year here and would like to mention that I don’t want to go to any other place. I am working in its capital, Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur is a very nice place and has a small area of around 243 square kms. Here, as in Malaysia, British ruled before it became a country.

Its people are diverse. They are Chinese, Indians, Philipinos, and Indonesians making the locals to up to 60% of the population. Interestingly, many Sardars have been here for 2-3 or more generations.

With a sizable Indian population, many Tamils have migrated to Malaysia years back, but surprisingly, they have not visited Tamil Nadu for years.

Malaysians enjoy many holidays with Chinese and Indian festivals being a part of it. Deepawali is also celebrated with gusto.

Indians who migrated to Malaysia years back are spread all over Malaysia. But in Kuala Lumpur many apartments have lot of Indians who come to work here in various companies and live as a community enjoying each other’s company.

In Kuala Lumpur, Little India or Brickfields is very popular and has a lot of residential accommodations where a lot of Indians are residing. This place has lot of Indian restaurants and shops to buy Indian goods. Don’t forget to check the apartments like Scott villa, The forum and Ixora when looking for a flat in Kuala Lumpur, especially if you are an Indian. Make sure that the apartment or condo, as called here, has a good security because thefts and pilferage are common.

Cost of living is comparable to Sharjah although the accommodation rentals can be the deciding factor. Living in KL is akin to living in Indian metros like Delhi. Like Indian metros KL is also congested but a shade better managed because the entire civil infrastructure like flyovers etc. is in the right place.

Malaysia is full of places with good landscapes, scenery and waterfalls like Langawi and Penang. Kl is full of outdoor and indoor theme parks and places to go for a good family outing. Don’t forget to visit KLCC, Times square, Sunway Lagoon, Petronas Towers, Putra Jaya, Chinatown when by KL.

Oil and Gas flourishes in Malaysia and Petronas are the Oil and Gas Company which generate around 50% of the revenues for Malaysia.

Football is the favorite sport here.

KL is connected to many Indian cities by flight. Low cost airlines like Airasia are very popular.

Singapore is the neighboring country and if coming here as an employee for a long period you can also get the multiple entry Singapore visa for an year and enjoy visiting Singapore.

It’s never very hot and neither cold in Malaysia. It’s always at a comfortable temperature although consistent rainfall can be irksome.

According to me Malaysia is on the top of charts for a visit, more so when there are adjoining places like Bali, Phuket, Bangkok etc.
