We left from our hotel in the morning from Penang and went to the ferry point to catch the ferry to Langkawi. Our ferry was at 8.30AM and it started by 8.45AM. The Trip was joyful and we stand at the top balcony of the ferry to get good wind and to take some photographs. The wind was blowing heavily due to the fast moving ferry and we found it difficult to stand over there. On the way, we saw many tiny islands. It took around 3 hrs to reach Kuah Town jetty in Langkawi island. Langkawi is a group of 99 islands. The moment we were close to the jetty, we saw a huge brown-eagle statue. Langkawi literarily means brownish eagle in colloquial Malay. The Malay word for eagle is helang - shortened is "lang" and Kawi means the colour reddish brown.

As there is no public transport available, we have to either rent a car, bike or hire a Taxi. We hired a taxi to go to Pulau cenang, where we booked a resort for our stay. After our lunch we checked in the Resort "Lankapuri Inn". Our room faces the sea and it was a different experience in our travel. The lunch from the hotel named ALUM THAM was very bad experience to us. We ordered Western style spaghetti and what we got was Indian noodle. In our next few days in Langkawi, we have never seen anybody eating from that great restaurant.

Then by 3PM, we hired a taxi at the rate of RM120 for 4 hours. We also booked for some package tours for next day. First we went for Cable Car. It was an unforgettable experience for us. In one cable car 4 people can sit. It will take us to the top of the hill. The Scenario was really superb! When it reaches 605mtr above sea level, we can get down to see the view of Langkawi and for taking some snaps. From there we can see a hanging bridge. Then we move towards the top most point of the mountain. About 705 meters above sea level, we saw a fantastic the view of Thailand, the Land of White Elephants and the whole Langkawi. After the adventurous ride in cable car we went to see Seven Wells. Due to scarcity of water there was nothing except a rock. Then we went to Crocodile farm where we can see a wide variety of crocodiles. We were lucky to get the opportunity to see the crocodile feeding. The quarrel among them for food was very nice for taking videos and photos. After that, we went to see another waterfall named Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls. It was also dry as we went in the summer season. On the way back, we saw a part of the airport, some Fish farms, Rice fields, Oil digging area etc. We reach back the resort by 7pm. Then we went to the shopping mall nearby. It is a Duty Free Shopping mall. Langkawi is also a DUTY FREE ISLAND. Thereafter we went for supper from Palace of India(A multi cuisine restaurant).

Second day started by viewing the waves in the early morning. It was just an amazing experience to wake up by looking at the sea. Later we had our breakfast in the hotel itself as it was included in our accommodation. Later the tour guide came to pick us and we were taken to another jetty. We started our “Island hopping” tour in a small boat which can accommodate around 10 people. On the way, the boat driver showed us some mountain series called as “Pregnant-maiden”. It has the shape of a pregnant lady. Then we were taken to Dayang Bunting Marble geo-forest Park where we can see a fresh water lake having a depth of more than 50mtrs. Visitors can enjoy small water sports over there. Be careful with your eatables as monkeys will snatch it away quiet easily. Later they took us to see eagles above our head catching fishes from the water and we reached an island “Beras Basah”. The clear water over there made us to jump into water enjoy for some time. Later, we came back to the starting point.

In the after-noon we went to an Italian pizza shop for lunch and the food was simply very good. Then we started our Sunset dinner cruise trip by 4 PM. The cruise experience was very nice. After cruise started moving, they put a kind of net on water called as Jacuzzis and we can go and enjoy in that net. Our body will be in the moving net against the flow of water and the cruise is continuously moving. It took us around different islands in the Andaman Sea and it is an unforgettable experience for us. The package includes unlimited drinks(both hot drinks and juices) as well as a buffet dinner. After viewing the excellent sunset, we came back to our room. Later in the night, we went for some shopping. There is a small local restaurant called “Tomato” which serves excellent local food such as Prata and Thosai.

Next day morning, we spent some time in the sea in front our room in Cenang beach and we went for Parasailing. Then we checked out from our hotel and came to Kuah jetty by a taxi(RM 24). We took some nice photographs in front of the eagle square and got into our boat to return back to Penang.

Some important facts:

• Bargain for everything including the tour packagesIf you wish to go for snorkelling or scuba diving, reserve one full day for it at Pulau Payar

• Other good package worth considering is Mangrove-Tour

• Even though they claim the island is duty-free, the duty free shops were damn expensive compared to what we have seen in Penang.

• First boat leaving from Penang at 08.15 AM(and hence back from Langkawi at 02.15 PM) stops at Pulau Payar and has fixed seat numbers and we cannot change or go upstairs to get wind. The other boat had free-seating and is more flexible.

• Avoid shopping clothes(esp. Cotton materials) from Langkawi unless you are sure of the quality(Telling from my experience).
