I have been in Hyderabad for less than a year now and I dine out often. I try my level best not to visit the same restaurant too often, but I am unable to do that when it comes to Mainland China. A restaurant where each visit is made memorable.
Located above Music World at Banjara Hills, this place is crowded most of the time. Reservations are necessary unless you are prepared to wait for up to one hour.
The service at Mainland China is what draws me to the place time and again. The restaurant managers and waiters make it a point to remember things like your favourite dish, your preferred table etc.
Being a vegetarian, I cannot comment on the non vegetarian food served at the restaurant. I have never been disappointed with anything that I have ordered so far. The crispy corn chilli pepper is a great starter, as are the vegetable wontons. If you are a mushroom lover, do try the dragon mushrooms.
The soups are tasty and filling. Most varieties of rice and noodles are tasty, the Cantonese Rice Noodles are what I like best. Seasonal vegetables in parsley sauce and hot garlic sauce are excellent. In the desserts section, Daarsaan (honey fried noodles) and date wontons never fail to impress.
The food is served reasonably fast and is very appealing. The portions are huge. The decor is nice but the music could do with some change. I have heard that their bar is very good and that they serve some wonderful cocktails, but I haven't tried any so far.
If by any chance, your meal has not been up to your expectations, the staff does notice immediately. Every effort is made to ensure that any disappointment is countered effectively so that your overall experience is good.
