Maine Pyara Kiya started a new era of films in Bollywood. A big family picture trend that started off in late 80s and onward. The only after this I would say was hum apke hai kaun. Well anyway I saw this movie on Video exactly that same year it was released in 1989. I think I was in second grade back than and came right from a tuition session and that was in India ofcourse. Maine Pyar Kiya was really good movie with songs. This movie proved good for salma and Salman Khan was there to stay and poor bhagayashri only perfomed in one more movie after this and that too with her husband himalay in kaid mein hai boolbool.
THis movie was not only started a trend started but ended and era of bollywood movies. 1980s saw a lot of social/offbeat/realistic perfomance movies. Parinda was another last of 80s type movie. THis movie I remember went on for a year from it was released till end of 1990.
Well anyway the reason it won an award because it was a movie that showed first time in India a big family getting together, a love story based on poor girl wanting to love a rich boy and vis a vis. But family getting in their way for their own reason. IT was a huge success. A formula tried a couple times and hit the jackpot in 1989.
