To begin with can you really call this film a tribute to the legendary actress Madhuri Dixit. Not really. Just because the dance numbers in the film are those from Madhuri's films and just because the actress wears similar clothes doesn't mean it is a tribute in any way. And if it is then it is a job badly done.

Antara Maali the protagonist of the film is from a small village and has grown up watching Madhuri's films on the ''parda''. It takes her no time to imbibe her dance steps and reproduce them for a village audience.

Hence she is the official Madhuri of the village. Her friend and bully is Rajpal Yadav who makes you smile from the first time he is on screen. Even if he is shyly coying or doing a jhatka or matka himself he is a treat to watch.

Antara decides she wants to come to Mumbai and become an actress. ''Main heroine banna chahti hoon Bapu'' she says with an accented tone. But her parents want her married and this is when Rajpal suggests that they should get married and then she can do what she pleases.

They get married and don't live happily ever after. Instead begins a life of trials and tribulations - because they do come to the city of dreams - Mumbai.

Here they are first duped by the cabbie who charges a whopping thousand bucks to get them to their destination. They rent a room which is a clumsy cluttered place and are stuck there 'cause they have already paid rent for six months in advance.

But all's well for Madame is going to become a big heroine. Next day they go to a studio and aren't even allowed inside the gates. Things happen and things work out in a way as smooth as silk.

She finds an agent who gets her a music video and boom she is the heroine in a C-grade film with all duplicate actors.

What happens next is for one to watch out. Actually not really. On the first day of her show she realizes that people don't really appreciate her. There are some five odd people in theatre none of which are interested in watching the film. They decide to come back to the village. And right behind them comes the agent who shows her clippings from Mid-day saying that the film is not a hit in Mumbai but in the rest of the country. And wallah they come running back to Mumbai!!

Performance-wise Rajpal is a winner all the way. Antara is disappointing. Neither does she behave like a village belle nor does she look like one. The supporting cast is just about okay.
